    D16y4 IACV Clean and Throttle body removal. Revs hunting? Look here.

    Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!

    Tools: Flat head screw driver
    Some king of lube (i used silicon spray)
    Socket set
    Plyers
    Rag


    Hey Guys,

    This is how to clean that pesky bloody IACV on the D16y4 engine.

    On a lot of engines the IACV is on the back on the throttle body, in the d16y4's case its under the throttle body

    Here is the IACV on the d16y4:


    Anyway if your revs are hunting (jumping) whilst parked this may be the cause.

    It's easy if you have done some research, but who has the time? Here is a DIY.

    Step 1: Disconnect your air filter from the throttle body (TB), i think if you have a stock intake arm than its just one clamp that connects the arm to the TB and disconnect your negative terminal from your battery.

    Step 2: Undo the four nuts holding the TB into place.


    There are 2 up the top and 2 down the bottom. This will release the TB.

    Step 3: Undo the sensor at the top of the TB and the plug connected to the Tb on the firewall side and the plug connected to the IACV under the TB





    Step 4: Undo the 2 nuts holding the throttle to make life a bit easier



    Step 5: Now get you hands under the TB and there will be 2 butterfly clips holding 2 hoses into place. (Have a rag ready for when you undo these as coolant will leak from the hoses and TB) You can use plyers to undo the clips, i used my hands and some silicon spray to lubricate the clips. Then i wedged a flathead screwdriver between the hose and the bottom of the TB and forced the hose down. (This was the most annoying part, i suggest you use plyers).

    Step 6: Now you should be able to have a bit of freedom with the TB. Flip it over and undo the 4 nuts to get to the iacv.


    This is what you will have when you undo the four nuts. Spray the insides of both with carby/TB cleaner and watch the black gunk get eaten away.
    NOTE: The rubber seal, make sure it doesn't fall out.
    Spray the cleaner until there is no more black stuff com ing out and clean the insides with a toothbrush or cloth (what you can reach).
    This is what it looks like when its opened.


    Step 7: Put the IACV back together (making sure the rubber seal is there) with the four nuts. Place the TB back into position, Re-connect both coolant hoses with the butterfly clips, re-connect the 3 sensors/plugs and do the nuts back up that hold the throttle into place on the intake manifold (we undone them in step 4).

    Step 7: Do up the four nuts that hold the TB to the Intake manifold and reconnect your intake arm.

    Step 8: Re-connect your negative terminal from your battery.

    Step 9: Start up your car, your car may chug and caryy on and black some WILL come out the back, this is normal as the cleaner works its way through. Its best to give it some juice so you dont stall.

    Step 10: Let the car run for a bit until it heats up to normal and see if has fixed the problem.
