i just finished off what i think is close to a full tank and got 520km with some spirited driving every now and then. if i drove like a granny i should be able to get 550km+.

this is using optimax. i notice that if i run different branded 98 octane fuel i would get less than if i used optimax.

as to the tank exploding I dont think it could, what would actually hapen is that the fuel pump will run hot and most likely sease up and stup working, but by the time this hapens you most likely hear the pump making whynning sounds then next thing you know the pump is farked.
I'm the first to say it's unlikely. But..
I've seen a fuelpump pulled from a tank which had it's wires' insulation burnt off. So there was a fire in the fuel tank at some time. It just needed the right mix of fuel to air and yeah it would've exploded, but a dead pump sucks enough alone. Btw if the fuel filter stops ALL the gunk going to the injectors why do people bother to have their injectors cleaned? I have seen a rotor eat itself alive due to gunk in the fuel filter and I've seen clogged injectors in a commodore. Both directly from running out of petrol.

Old Post but I thought I post up my results as well..

I recently bought a DA9 as an addition to my Honda Family

in my first week, I'm doing 8.19 Litres per 100km... I'm on my second week now and I've just fitted one of my spare K&N pods in it and I'll see how the consumption goes...

i think coz the fuel gauge max point only show up to a certain point of the tank..but when u fuel up u can go way above that point, so it seems like u have more fuel for the first half the tank....thats the most logical reason i've came up with...outta 4 DA's i've had in the past is the same

I've just done calculation on fuel economy for my DC5S

    Driving style is,
    - 30% Hitting VTEC/High RPM
    - 30% Highway
    - 40% City/Short burst

I got 378km out of 33.78litres of 95RON, which equates to 10.98L/100k or around 9L/k

    Not bad....

But i would like to know why the car seems to be super economical for the first half of the tank and then crap for the second half. Every time i fill up my tank it will take a good 100 km before the needle even moves past 'full'. When the needle says half a tank, its usually at around 285 kms or so. but after that the needle is much quicker to go down. Now im on about 405 kms to the tank and its already quite close to the empty line. Are the needles a little innaccurate or do these cars run better on a fuller tank? By the way this tank i havent been driving it hard at all... Last time i got about 480kms to the tank.
I highlighted your question for everyone.

The car should have better fuel economy on an emptier tank due to weight. That is all.
so 2 half to empty fills will get you further than 1 full fill. But you would also have to factor in deviating to a petrol station.
