What did your engine usually idle at? Does the idle jump up and down between 1 & 3? Does the idle settle at 2 when engine is cold...or does it have to be hot? My idle speed control screw was clogged with crap behind it...so turning this had no affect at all on idle before it was cleaned so this may be a problem with yours. You may have to physically poke a scribe around there because I don't think the carby cleaner will reach there.
I assume you've also read the forum articles about the FITV because this affects idle as well.
just a little addition to the thread. The threaded section above those ports can unscrew itself. If you still have an idle problem look in the top of the unit and see if you can scew it down again. This is particularly common on the EW series motors - yes they are still out there.
Also, the pipes for the heater hoses at the bottom can corrode out. Before throwing the unit out, you can 'JB metal weld ' glue new pipes back into this part. Done that to two IACA's so far. Just flat off the corroded part, drill it out - carefully- slightly oversize for the replacement pipe, and glue it in. I get replacement pipes from an old magna carby.
if u can get a breaker bar and the small socket onto it , leverage helps ALOT.
Just take your time , hold one end with your hand and slowly "hit" the other ( the RIGHT way to undo) and hopefully it will crack it
best to use a long ratchet , or breaker bar as stated.
But a normal spanner will fit , just be careful it doesn't slip and round the bolt end , and make sure you are loosening the RIGHT way ! ( you should turn it towards the RIGHT hand side of the engine bay to undo)
turtleEK1 or anyone else who has done this on an D16Y4 - what did you do? I took mine off (I have D16Y4) and it seems to be of a different design to the one pictured in the DIY. As turtleEK1 mentioned it's located underneath the throttle body. I right royal pain in the behind to get on and off without removing the throttle body. My breather hoses seem to be stuck on as well. I ended up putting it all back as I couldn't seem to find any 'mesh' that needed to be cleaned. I also checked out the service manual but from the schematic it doesn't appear to have the 'mesh' filter. Any help appreciated.
