Check the Build Date at the front on the chaissis holding on to the right headlight.

    Build Date: 'MMM DD
    87-88 Ballade? (gen1)
    88-89 is Gen 1 .
    90-91 is Gen 2. si: d16a8 siR: b16a
    92+ Gen 3.

    As for engine differences:

You'll know. When you drive it, you'll hit 6.5k and Vtec takes over.
    As by looking at it:

Engine Number for d16a8 is at the front of the engine, behind the fan. It will read: d16a8######..

Since you've decided to go CRX -- crxaustralia.com can provide you with some more information :P

Hey thanks for all your help. I Bought A CRX! Yay.
It's a JDM SI 88 with a D16a8, got it for $6100 from a dealer with rego, rwc & 2yr wrty which is wierd, they said I could goto any mechanic but I'd still have to pay?
Not the nicest crx but mechanicals were ok. Where do I go to get the back seat re-attached in Melb?
Also my jdm crx has the audm bump in the bonnet... wierd? It is definetly JDM though.

You have to get the seatbelts cut out of a JDM chassis, then welded to your audm chassis.
If you'd like the seats, I'll swap your compartment for my seats. But I'm in SYDNEY, so yeah... LOL

Also, JDM cars don't have d16a8. They have ZC.

Sounds to me like you've got a AUDM.

be more specific when your telling him where the numbers are located,

umm.. the code stamped on your block should read "ZC"
look at your rocket cover then abit lower on the left hand side of teh block,
either it reads, D16a8 with more numbers at the bottom or just ZC stamped

ive got a Zc, not really much diffrent then the SI just abit more power.. dont even think its noticeable

Sorry, I assumed he already knew what it said because he was quite sure it said d16a8.
