How do cop defect you?
Do they stop lots cars like in breath testing, or just pull you over? Or see you speeding then pull you over and start going over your car?

After that what needs to be done?

What are the stuffs that normally get defected?

Who have any experience to share?

The police can pretty much check for defects at any of the times you have described above.

Usually they will write out a ticket describing what's defective, and the corrective action (e.g. get a blue slip inspection at a AUVIS, or an RTA inspection).

Common ones I can think of: too loud exhausts, vehicle height too low (suspension), incorrect wheel sizing, incorrect tyre load rating, GT wings, carbon bonnets, etc.

They can do it at breath tests, defect station, when you are speeding or do an illegal turn or if they are in a bad mood, they can pull you over for no reason just to check for defects.

yeah just depends on the mood of the cops. Their usual issue is with easliy identified items.

Larger wheels, pod filter, pedals, tint, car too low, exhaust too big/loud. THose are the main things they look for. Most are not smart enough to notice real defects.

Yeah, heaven forbid they should defect us for stuff that would save our lives, or the lives of other people.


Police officers are able to use discretion during work. If you seem like the type who's not going to get it fixed (and it's not hard to tell) they'll defect you. If you genuinely are concerned, they may just give you a non-official verbal warning.

it's probably worth noting that field cops don't usually deal with vehicles and are assigned other domestic issues.

Defects are the regular domain of Highway officers. They are given specilised training for the work they do on the roads from a legal standpoint, and for roadside assistance.
