Expect around 12L+ since its a new engine.

All engines need around 5000km to wear in properly. When an engine is new, there is a lot of friction in the cylinders and other parts, which cause high fuel consumption.

My Euro was eating over 15L when it was new, now it eats 9L

I actually bought a 10 month old 2006 VTi-L with 15k on the clock... I do alot of city driving, about 90% of my distance is city as I live in the inner suburbs. I'm on my second tank and I've lost 2 bars and I've only done 10km's (all city driving, max travelled was Brunswick for the Melbournians).... I'm using Caltex Vortex (not the 98, just normal one)... at this rate I'll be doing 200km with a tank of fuel, is there something wrong or is the civic like that? Its an Auto btw and I am very very light footed, when I accelerate, I don't go past 2.5k rpm

lol when i accelerate, i don't go pass 2k rpm, if i feel like dragging (ie when i was the first one at the light, i will go loss and do semi WOT and hit 4-5k, but it happens so rare, like 3 times a week, haha)

anyway, there is no point using vortex, since civic is not adjusted to it, you might as well use 91ron and save a bit. since ur car is a second hand, i might bring it in for a minor service, get them changed the oil and filter etc, and make sure there are no problems.

just run one or two tanks then get an average fuel usage. don't trust the display meter, although mine is pretty on the spot. also when the yellow light on, u still got 7L left.

my car has just passed the 15k mark, should I bring it into Honda for a 5k service? or wait till 20k?

I know that the civic uses 91RON, but would I get better fuel economy if I use Vortex or equivalent? My friend claims he could get better fuel economy when he switched over to V-power on his Astra.

Buy some Honda FEO from a honda dealer and change the oil yourself
You dont have to change the oil every 5000km, but since its still a newish engine, an oil change wont hurt.

As long as you get the car serviced at a honda dealer at the regular intervals, and use the recommended oil thickness, your warranty should be fine.

Try BP 95RON. You may find that it will give better fuel economy and cost you about the same per tank anyway. Plus 95RON is a cleaner fuel and will extend the life of the engine. 98RON has fuel additives that clean the engine, so its good to use 98RON once in a while to clean the injectors etc..

Thanks for the tip... but I was reading the Honda service manual the other day and it said that you have to service it every 5000k's? or was it recommended and the required ones are every 10000k?

I think I'll just have to try BP, Shell over the next few weeks to see which is better, but has anyone tried Vpower and got better fuel economy or is it just better performance?

Its every 10,000km. Although some dealers try to score an extra oil change at 5000km intervals but you dont really need to. The Honda oil should last 10,000km unless you drive harshly or dont drive the car much (oil degrades over time).

Since your engine is tuned for 91RON, you wont benefit from using 98RON except for its cleaning properties. 95RON should be more efficient but I doubt you will notice any power improvement, even with VPower

i've used the vortex power (caltex) and the fuel consumption is the same as 91RON fuel whereas when i use V-power (shell) 98RON i get an extra 20km on a tank...not much...but at least it cleans the engine...

My auto VTI is a 5 weeks old and just over 5000km now.
I do half free way driving and half Canberra city driving, which isn't very city driving.
Mine uses about 7.8l/100km

wooo, 5000km in 5 weeks, that would take me about 1 year to finish the distance.
