wat in car camera do u use in your car while dragging or tracking ?

im just wondering so i know what to get.

one which you can access the REC and STOP buttons easily from your driving position and if possible a flip screen that you can see from the driver seat so you know what is going to get captured.

long batt life would be handy too.

This is my setup,
Its a Sony DCR-TRV-?? mounted on the rear parcel shelf on the DC2R. Camera is a few years old now, has mini DV tape.
Its does the job really well, even on bumpy roads.
I have a remote, so at the drags or whatever, I just press record, make sure the little red light comes on and I am on my way.

I have a JVC Hard Disc Camcorder. It is really good, except if the settings are set to the highest quality the recording cuts out after a few seconds (something to do with vibrations). so i got myself a 4gb SD card, now it works supurb.

I have an S2000, and camera is mounted where the wind guard is between the seats. really solid and perfect position for the S2000.

I have a Panasonic DV camera. Mounted on the back rest of the front passenger seat with a tripod.

It has a remote that I use to hit REC.

Have a sony hard disc cam been lazy and havent made a mount yet but also have a "bumper cam"

Very easy. Just bought 2 strips of Aluminium from Bunnings, bent them to suit, trimmed and fixed into position.

1st strip of Aluminium was bent to shape from Left to Right (Drivers side to Passenger side. 2nd peice was bent to shape from front to back. It was then drilled and riveted together to make the complete Stand.

Holes drilled for mount points to Parcel shelf and also drilled for Camera mount.

I riveted the stand to my parcel shelf using Washers underneath to prevent them from pulling through. You could use a nut and bolt situation if you need to remove the stand a somtime.

Very easy, only thing to make sure on is making sure the camera is pointing where you want. So before you drill & fix the stand in place, make sure its in the right spot.

I usually keep my front seat in my car when I go to the track so I just made a mount that goes into the passanger seat head rest spot. Holds the camera fairly steady. I just use a normal digital camera that can record video. My dad uses his old DV camera with no problems.

I use a Monfrotto suction cup for mounting. Those things are pretty good.

had a canon powershot a70. compact 3.2mpxl camera. this was back in '04.

strapped it to the passenger headrest with the camera strap.
you could just still see the lcd screen with a bit of force. basically hit the on button and pressed the record button while on the track, or before hitting the track. (have it set for movie recording)

downfalls, camera only recorded video in 15 frames per second, aswell as only in 3min increments. which, co-incidently, didn't get to record my hot laps... lol
otherwise, it was a pretty good darned setup for what it was.

i do have footage of wakefield, but haven't compressed/encoded it to a smaller size. as 3mins is about 45mb.

goes to show that you don't need a big setup, BUT, it is quite limited & not as versatile as having a video camera w/ tripod or suction cap.

for the drags, it would be ideal & low cost. for circuit work, frustrating but better than nothing.

besides i don't have a video camera.

Elmo solid state recorder with a 480 TV line lipstick camera. Decent resolution, easy one button stop/go operation and no moving parts to rattle loose. Records straight to a flash disc in MPEG4 format.

Working on a CANbus interface so it will display a virtual dash as well.
