How much boost is to much boost?

Sup guys, Im currently questioning alot of my mechnics and tuners howmuch my car can really handle.

My car atm is a EJ8 Civic Coupe Vti. D16Y8 SOHC VTEC

It has a Greddy turbo kit, with a TD04 turbo, hks SSQV BOV, FMIC, 440cc injectors, upgraded fuel pump and decomp plates put in.

The vtec has been turned off on the motor and im not quite sure why but im sure there was a reason behind it. (i bought the car pretty much turboed already)

Some people say im safe to put the psi up to around 12psi, some say 10.

So if anyone has a similar or knows more about my engine setup, would u be able to help me out.

    Thanks

i dunno why anyone would want vtec off? maybe check the signal hitting the vtec solenoid? proper engine management and good tune 12psi no probs, but 10 safe to give you some buffer room.... and on a small td04 havnt got much probs

most of the time ppl dont calculate how much psi a motor can hold, as psi differs from turbo to turbo, but most D16's will hold 200 ~ 250 whp with a good tune.

Look at HP more than psi. Our D series engines have piss weak rods

couped_up is running a similar setup on his EJ8. Its running 8psi from memory. 8psi daily is good. i guess it could run 10psi occasionally though.

Small rods on that motor so they wont handle too much power for long. The best thing to do is speak to some tuners with plenty of experience tuning these cars ie: dyno dave, toda racing etc and work out with them how much power they will tune your car to given standard internals.

Give James a call from Hondata or pop down to his workshop, he’s located in Melbourne, that’s my suggestion. James has been turbo’ing Hondas for many years and owns a 400kw b16 CRX. James will give you honest advice it costs nothing to ask questions. His number is 0417 875 785

Thanks guys yeah was just wondering why would anyone turn off the vtec? I got the car like that, and I thinkthey place called protek or something like that turned it off whenthey put the turbo kit in. Probably to make their life easier?

Anyways just a off the topic question also, Does the VTEC on the SOHC models (VTi) really make much difference? I never owned a SOHC vtec so i dont know what its ment to do, ive had B16's but they are obvious what they can do.

Anyways thanks again guys fromt he help.

100000psi is a little too much IMO
