I dont think you need to do anything different for a dc2r than u would for any other car.

    1. Make sure its got a full service history. If a car has been regularly serviced it makes all the difference in the world

    2. Try not to get one that has too many kms clocked up on it. 15,000 kms per year and below is a good mark to go by. Ie. a 1994 Vti-R is 10 years old, and therefore anything over 150,000kms is above "average" obviously the less the better.

    3. Ask/check if its been in an accident. This is not always easy to do, but check the panels and make sure they all look original. The way they line up against other panels is a give away, as well as paint colour and studs used to bolt em on (might have to look under the bonnet for that)

    4. If you're buying privately sus out the previous owner. If its some young dick head that doesnt have a legit reason for selling it, there might be something wrong with it or its been thrashed etc. I know this is a big stereo type but i personally would prefer to buy a car off someone who is older and preferably someone with some knowledge of cars because they're more likely to have looked after it.

    5. Always take someone else with you, 4 eyes are better than two. Also they might prevent you from making an emotional purchase. You might like the mags and the stickers on it and buy it without thinking about it properly

There is just a few tips i thought of off the top of my head. Hope it helps.

dont get nrma inspection, they are crap, get stateroads to do the check, it costed me 160$ and money well spent, they check for headgasket leaks etc which nrma doesnt.
i dont have their number but can visit their web site
www.stateroads.com.au i think. otherwise yeah as stated obove, logbooks, accidnet history, things you would look out for any other car.

well all that Stabo said. regardless of buying from dealers or private sellers.. an inspection is a MUST! you can't skimp on this as it'll either help you knock a few grand of the car or assure you that you are getting a car which won't fall apart 2 weeks after purchasing it.

For the difference in the cc, VTiR and Type R have slightly smaller CC than the GSi. why?? good question. something to do with the Vtec maybe.

I just bought my car a few weeks ago. so here are someof the things which i did:
    1) Inspection
    2) REVS check
    3) dig out the previous owner's history. If he'she was a kid.. most probably the car's been driven pretty hard. yes... again, stereotype, but hey.. we all have to admit that we've done it before or are still doing it.
    4) go easy when making the decision. Don't hesitate. There's always gonna be another one. So don't rush into something without thinking about it carefully.
    5) make sure the car's got a service history. If not you can knock a couple of hundred off the price it's already justified.

I won't be really sceptical about getting a Type R from a dealership. You should knoe that there is a price difference between buying a car from a dealership and buying it privately. The difference is because dealerships are suppose to provide a 'statutory warranty' of something like 3000kms or 3 months (depending on the dealership). But then don't be fooled.. get an inspection!! and yeah it's best to know the car before going to the dealership. I went to one dealer and he told me some type Rs come with sunroof. wtf?!?! and when asked why the sunroof doesn't open all the way (oni opened around 5 inches) he said 'cause the roof os a type R is small.. so it doesn't go all the way back'. wow?? really??!??!

I'm sure the other forumers will have some good suggestions as well..

whoops yeah stateroads, not NRMA, 5 pages, $120 ++ (depending on how far away the car is) 02-98721994. For anyone else.. they're not just in sydney. They're in gosford, newcastle, melb, brisbane. I love their report.

    supernatural,

Well in Adelaide its called the RAA, but yeh i say go for it. If you're going to spend $15-25,000 + on something then ~$150 is a small price to pay for peace of mind

Personally i wouldnt buy a dc2r without FULL service history (these high revving engines need to be serviced properly else..)

Like people have said, get it inspected no matter who its from. Some dealers are pretty shonky.

Do a google search for what you should do yourself when inspecting a car... its a long list! but if your going to spend 20k+ and its hard earned money then it will be worth it!

And dont rush into it. I took me 6 months to find the right dc2r..

i believe there is no difference between the 99-00 model from my knowledge and for the engine capacity, all type r, the dc2r have ecactly the same capacity, its most likely to be a typo. otherwise there was this indy edition which had different colour seats and a few extras thrown in
