    Wink eg civic si or eg civic vti

    hi all, i know that the vti weighes like 1050kg and the si weighs 990kg stock. but what makes the big difference in weight. is it the engine? doesnt the si putout like 96kw at the flywheel, so shouldnt it weigh more the the vti.
    im planning to purchase of the two but cant make up my mind which would be better. if each had a b18c7 conversion would the weight be the same or similar?

    any suggestions which one to purchase for a conversion?
    thanks

    the weight of the body itself shouldnt be any different the si should weight more due to the fact that it is a twin cam 1050 is the weight of a sedan civic and 990 is the weight of a hatch civic im pretty sure but as for if they both had a b18c7 due to the fact that it also depends on which u keep plus the actual kerb weight will change cause u might decide to keep your p/s and a/c or take them out so that also changes the weight and also the brake upgrade would also change the weight of your civic.

    just purchase any EFI EG but more towards the vti as you already have rear disc brakes and you should only need to upgrade your front rotors and calipers

    Si is slightly lighter than Vti due to less options ( mostly due to no sunroof) .
    Apart from that , they are exactly the same body really. Same thing

    nah get a gli with alot of kms since ur gonna do a engine convert anyways. much cheaper unless ur after a sunroof.

    i had a 94 one and it came with a sunroof and it was nearly half the price of wat my mate paid for his vti.

    rear disc brakes are only like 300.

    I thought the Si weight according to redbook is more like 1015Kg, not sure if that included A/C as it was an option.

    With the Vti the sunroof adds at least 15Kg, may be even closer to 20Kg high above its centre of gravity. The alum roof on the Evo 8 MR saves "only" 4kg and it makes enough of a difference to justify the effort in a heavy car so imagine what it would do to your handling in the civic.

    The B18CR drivetrain with heavier duty driveshafts, engine itself and bigger brakes and 5 stud hubs assuming you are doing them as well would add another 20-30Kg I've been told at the front end of the car.

    I drive an EG Si as my daily driver and planning to the same conversion, and bought a DC2R to learn more about the drivetrain and its tuning potential at the meantime.

    I would go for the Si, i got a VTi at the moment and i rally don't use the sunroof all that much, nor do i need/want an airbag. Only good thing is the scream vtec makes when it kicks in (i know it's sohc vtec but i got a big a55 intake so i can hear it). A mate of mine just picked up an si sedan for 3g, so jelous, i paid more than 3x that for mine

    Hi Mate

    Essentially In your position but more like EG vs EK but still my info will help j00 :P

    Figures from the Honda.com.au site

    VTi = 1050kg
    GLi = 1013kg
    Breeze = 1000kg

    Si = Somewhere in between

    Essentially the reason why personally I would go for a Si or GLi over the VTi is the fact that those two models dont have a sunroof - Saving a fair amount of weight. Im not too keen on them and id be doing an engine conversion eventually so the power is not too much of a concern

    I believe the Si, like the VTi, has rear brakes. The Si also has power options just without the sunroof, as the Si was the top of the range model before the Vti.

    For me, If i was to find a good condition Si with less then 130K km's for less the 6500, id get it.

    Si is the best of both worlds i think . Power(DOHC - yes i realise its the same output as the vti - and no sunroof (saves weight)
