lol how come those numbers seem so outragous to me ? im doing 13 - 14L/100km its crazy, its city driving in sydney no where out far west, =/ but its probably because cars still new ? =/ around 2500 kms on the odo

Well, I'm there with you red. My euro is over a year old, done 11000km , currently running on 13-14L. suburb driving. makes little different when I'm spirit driving or baby it. Full tank is about 350-400km
-
i argree its totally bogus lol, i get about that much as well

Same here, I always average 11.5-12.5l/100km (manual). But most of my trips are short and maybe only 20% of the km is done on the freeway (100k/h). The rest is done mostly at 60k/h areas and start stop driving. Also i have Intake, header, and exhaust mods.
But at one time I filled up 10l and I did ~100km (remembering the position of the gauge, fill in, drive, and noting down the increase of km till the needle went back to the orig position). And this was equivalent to roughly 50% freeway and 50% initial D style driving :P at Mt. Dandenongs (constantly above 4000rpm and WOT). So yeah depends on where you normally drive you can get the claimed fuel consumption with ease.
-
I do 100% suburb driving, and all short trips but I still get 10.5L/100km. You guys have a heavy foot especially when taking off at the lights. To get 10.5L/100km in full suburb driving, you have to be prepared to lose to the Camrys and Barinas at the lights.

Hmm could the euro FC be overrated? Or is the FC for any car overrated? Say the man euro is rated at 9.1l/100km and people get about 10-20% more consumption in real life. How about say a 6.0L HSV rated at 15l/100km? that means we will be getting close to 20l/100km in real life!

Fuel consumption figures are tested according to ADR (Which was based off the European testing).. The figures indicated for each vehicle were conducted in LABORATORIES and not on the ROAD. The manufacturers perform the tests and send the report to the transport department!
The average consumption figures are based on a 50/50 driving mix, in some European countries, they have up to three different figures for different driving conditions for each vehicle....
They cannot be replicated for real life on road driving conditions...

The manual Euro's fuel consumption is very close to the rated numbers. The EPA numbers are tested without traffic lights and is a combination of highway and suburb driving. So my 10.5L/100km number is very close to it. Combine that with my highway consumption of 7L/100km (tested on my way to Melb from Sydney), my consumption is then 8.75L/100km if I did 50/50 of highway and suburb driving.
Of course, autos tend to have higher real life fuel consumption compared to the rated number because the EPA testing does not do heavy foot acceleration from stops, which is what almost ALL auto drivers do.

1 year old car with 11,000km.... thats pretty on the low side.... done the 3 service already?
I do mostly town driving, and avg at around 10.5/100km. Usually around 10-11/km... if I drive real slow and let it cruise to a stop all the time, then its around 10.
Just did my 10,000km service, and change to Castrol Edge, first thing I notice is that the fuel consumption seems to drop slightly, I can go below the 10l/km mark if I drive real slow and let it cruise to a stop.

I'm going the 3rd service on this saturday. After the first 1000km service, I've always used motul oil.
I don't really think that I have a heavy right foot. The most of the time the needle doesn't even get pass 3000rpm, and I'm still getting 13l, that's alot dont you think... it's drinks pretty much the same with my other v6 camry. Only the camry takes unlead petrol

is yours an auto? How much throttle do you use when taking off from the lights? How long is your trip each time you start your car?
