Thumbs up exhaust and cold air intake advice

    hey guys (and girls).

i just finished installing a custom exhaust and short ram/cold air intake on my '03 euro. i wanted a quiet (almost stock car) when driving normally, but loud race sound when accelerating hard

thats exactly what i ended up with so im very happy, if anyone has any questions on what i used or any advice on things they've done, let me know, im always happy to help.

    cheers

I would be interested to know what you used for the exhaust side of things.

Mayb even if you could post up a sound clip of the exhaust note at different revs, if possible.

    ok starting from basics,

at first i had straight through piping (2 1/4) from the cat all the way back to the twin mufflers, in essence taking out the two central mufflers. however, i had alot of high pitch noise and it made the car sound like a hyundai. so i had a high-flow hotdog resonator put in closely after the cat convertor, (just a generic brand) that got rid of the high freq whine and kept it fairly quiet at low revs (only slighty more noise above 5000 than stock).
i then installed K&N typhoon CAI (only short ram for now, will install full piping closer to summer when i have more time). no real sound level difference for normal driving (slightly more airry sound) and you can definately hear the difference when vtec kicks in (awesome sucking sound). but as you put your foot down and the throttle body opens wide, you get a very nice loud destinctive low grumble (almost like a wrx). sounds very nice around the 4-7000rpm range.

im getting the car dyno'd on the 22nd july, so ill let you know how that goes once i have results.

i have picture of the set up here, and i will try to get sound clip for you guys aswell

    cheers

FYI - K&N kit extremely easy to install! probably a 15min job, anyone could do it

2 1/4" seems kinda small. That's the ideal for 1.8/2.0Ltr Lancers and the such. I would have thought 2 1/2" at least.

yeah still stock rear mufflers, but from what ive heard theyre fairly good when it comes to high flow... i guess ill find out how well they work when i get it dyno'd
i didnt wanna go 2 and 1/2 because sometimes with small 4cyl n/a engines you need that back pressure there (and also 2 1/2 can give a fairly loud idle note).
but how knows, its all experimental at the moment, and i had flanges welded in at each point of connection so its easy for me to plug and play...

i wouldnt think 2.5 would be too big for a k24 motor
im pretty sure the EGK20A EG with the k20 is running a 3inch set up
