how to choose custom exhaust sound?

i am looking at getting a custom cat back system soon for my ek1. i kinda know what sound i want, do i just bring in a clip of it for them to check out so that they can match it? or should they have plenty of clips to listen to?

depends who u bring it too, but bring them a clip to listen to anyway,
might be a certain muffler that makes that sound...

You purchase exhausts to improve the response/performance of your car man, not for the sound,
If you walk into any muffler store and play them the sound that you're after, theyre gonna look at you like you're a retard - unless theyre retarded themselves.

I am curious about how you have come to that conclusion. Is it from personal experience? If so, then you clearly havent got the right exhaust on your car. If you put the right components together (ie headers, cat, muffler and most importantly resonator) then there is no reason that it cant sound good.
