The 2005 Civic 4dr sedan you are referring to is the ES Civic.
This Civic carries a 1.7L non vtec engine known as the D17Z1 engine (88kw).
The Civic that I own (2005 5dr hatch) is the vtec variant with the D17A2 engine (96kw).
Yes if you buy the ES in the US, you will get the D17A2 engine.. their spec is different to AUS spec. Judging by your name, i'd assume that you are driving the Aus spec, Australian versions will always be the D17Z1 unless you do an engine swap.
dude..im sure if u check the metal plate in the engine bay, should provide u the engine code, vin no. and the build date maybe sumwhere..either in ur engine bay or around the door area.
i was searching mine too today morning...and it has ###D16Y4########### for my 96 ek1
Do you know how much better i would improve the power by purchasing a CAI or short ram and an exhaust system.. I dont really care about high end torque as theres never anywhere to use it..I really want to improve its off the mark speed.. Probally the only thing I've disliked about the civic since i bought it.

Only VTi that honda released for the Civic 7th gen's was for the EU hatchback which was a special edition with a bodykit. All ES sedans are GLi in aus.
