Either cold, or let the engine sit for about 3-5 minutes. It differs with engines. Certain brands are designed with narrow oil galleries and take longer for the oil to drain back down. Same for engines that use more viscous oils.

Penrite HPR 10 is a 10w-50 oil, it's too thick for B/D/H/K and R series engines, which were specced for 10w-30 oil. Only the older F22a on the non-VTEC CD4 Accord which is specced for 10w-40 should take the 10w-50 HPR 10.

arong what you mean let it sit?

as in check the oil wen the engine is cold (say early morning) ??

i read in my manual it says to check it once warmed up , let it cool down, say 5 min then check dipstick .

Hes saying check it cold, or check it warm, but wait 3-5 mins after turning the engine off, for all the oil to drain back down to the sump.

When you start the car, the oil level in the sump will be lower as the oils being pumped throughout the engine. It needs to drain back to the sump for a while to get a true reading.
