i realise this is a noob quetion but. Prior to draining the oil from the car. Should the car be cold or run a bit to warm up the oil.
Plus how long to cool after the warm run?
See a good post..... Then do one even better

Traumatized is right. The one you saw was the silver one and rated at 5w-50. The gold one is fully gold and rated at 10w-30. There is also the 0w-40 that is in that ebay link, but the one with the same viscosity as Honda's recommendation is 10w-30.

You don't need to warm it up because when cold, almost all the oil is in the sump and will drain out. Honda's engine oil is also thin, so it will still flow out even when cold. If you warmed it up prior to draining, you would have old oil pumped up into the head and galleries, plus the oil would be hot and you risk scalding your hand.

when i changed my oil a couple of months back, i drained the oil, but when i took off the oil filter, oil came out. like a cup full. this was done on stands so the front of the car was raised. how do u get the oil out so it doesnt go everywhere once you change the filter?

With a cold engine, I take the plastic wrapper bag from a loaf of bread, and then press it against the block around the filter. Then I just remove the filter, taking care not to tear the plastic bag. Filter stays in the bag, and any drips as well. Then just wipe up any little spills.

I've done it with an old NB MX5 as well. You don't need space (space on the MX5 was just enough to put one hand in as deep as my wrist. Everything else was skillful wriggling fingerwork . As long as you can get the bag around the filter, you're set. Once the filter is out, just make sure you keep your finger on the bag so you make a seal at the area beneath the filter mount.
