Finally got my tyres. I wanted to get the Michelin Pilot Precedas 2 but the tyre dude convinced me otherwise stating that they are not as good nowadays since they are made in south east asia somewhere. Ending up getting the Dunlop Sport Maxx at 260 each. For some reason the tyre does not "bulge" out as much. I remember with my Potenzas it bulges out a fair bit which protects the rims. Can anyone shed some light on why it doesn't bulge out much. The size is 225/45/17 on the '05 Lux rims.

the tyre dude was wrong, the michelin's are great tyres IMO 260 is a good price from the quotes I got too, however michelins are better. They make more money from dunlops than they do on michelin's, most likely he wanted a sale and michelins are pricey.......how does your car feel with the new tread ?

Yeah i was so close to getting the Michelins at 240 each. This may sound stupid but i don't like the tread pattern of them, they look so conservative. I reckon the dunlops look better (more aggressive). The tyres seem real sticky and pretty soft. It rained a tonight in sydney and the tyres felt stuck to the road. so far pretty happy. Although the next tyres i might get would be the either the maxxis maz1 or kumho ku31. They get pretty good reviews and the prices are quite good (200, 210 respectively).

One thing i'm not happy about my dunlops is the "bulgy" thing. Basically realised the tyre in this particular size doesn't have the rim protector like the potenzas. i dont really know how effective these rim protectors are but i like the look of them.
