The EM/ES/EP/EU Civics were a disaster for Honda Australia I think (Panda, Shrek, Pazzman or someone working at a dealership confirm this) but look at it this way, EG/EH => EK/EJ => EU/ES, the difference between these three gens is pretty scary, EG and EK agruably things of beauty with engines to match and god knows how much parts available for them. Come to the EU/ES, the looks are disappointing (The ES was the main one on the ads, which to me dampened the appeal simply cause the ES isn't nice looking generally) and the engine was a 1.7L across the board? rated at 88kW wasn't powerful enough. Look at the local competition and that was game over for Honda.

Its a mix of several things that contributed to the 7th Gens lacking performance in Australia (Even if they had the EP/EM here, I doubt much would change)

I'd rather have the 7th gen than any older civic.

Newer economy cars > older economy cars

Let's face it the civic is a cheap small car.

    Of course 8th gen > 7th gen :P

i get to drive both a 7th and 8th gen (my dads)
i like my 7th gen cause its 'run in', modded to how i like, easy to see over the bonnet, easy to park etc
the 8th gen is a stocker but styling and tech is much better than the 7th gen

    best of both worlds really

Hmm well each to their own guys.. what's with all the 7th gen bashing?

I drove a Civic EK CXi when i learnt felt like a bloody snail.. no tacho.. cheap as shit interior..

When i got my Vi it was like a luxury car compared to the 6th gen's in terms of interior.. exterior was improved cuz mine was 05 spec came with body kit and skirts so it made it hell of a lot better than prev model. Engine is sohc vtec had 96kw not bad.. I love my car cuz its awesome economy (i average 6.8L/100 city/highway) and comfy drive.. Bear in mind Civics arent designed for 'racing' so all you guys are so delusional when it comes to criticizing the 7th gen when u bag em about performance (Unless you compare a VTiR/Type R which have race bred engines)

7th gen is an OK car it just looked too dull. Doesnt look bad or anything just so dull.

The sedan was more generic looking than a Corolla and the hatch looked like a van.

I think if people really tried the sedan had the potential to look decent due to the OK body shape. A bodykit + new grille + bonnet scoop can make it look WRX like.

7th gen was my first eva car!!! and I'm loving it!!! to tell u the truth, I bought it as a "project" car becoz you cant see any of this type around moded n stuff... but then I realise, that becoz we lack of parts here in Oz... so I decide to move on to 8th Gen now... but love them both though!!!!

so many 7th gen haters....ppl got the nerve to bag the 7th gens looks?????

ill talk about the sedan, look no offence, i dont usually talk like this because i respect other cars

but the 7th gen is the only civic sedan that looks good.

the eg sedan isnt good, neither is the ek, both look horid

the fd isnt that flash either, and ive driven them plenty so im not just talkin crap

some of u are saying its not sports orientated???? wat civic is??

most civics from the factory are just as far from a sports car than the 7th gen is, so i dont know y any1 would whing about the 7th gen not being sporty enough

the only sporty older model civcs are the vtir and type R, nothing else

the 7th gen did come with a few DOHC engines overseas, just not here

the series 1 7th gen was nice, but the series 2 7th gen was a whole lot better, thats y ive got one, coz the other civic sedans at the time looked crap in comparison
