i dont see why peak power means so much ? EVEN more so on the smaller capacity , the less it means lol. Ever heard of useable torque ?
yeah i agree... the term "best" is just a bit subjective just like "performance" can be attributed to power, handling, economy.
***EDIT***
but now i think about, is there any point in aiming to maximise torque on 1.6l donks? look at the 2 main ones, B16 & 4age20v... stroke vs bore ratio is designed for them to rev reliably to make the power.... gaining torque seems a waste to me... maybe not on B18c and upwards...
***EDIT Again***
speaking of flywheels... get my PM Ben?

well the fact is you cant gain low/mod range torque on a 1.6. Thats why they gain power with revs. Works well on lighter cars.
You dont "feel" peak power in a 1.6 compared to a 1.8 or 2.0 or whatever - sorry guys im knocking this conversation dont mind me lol.
IMO the best 1.6 out there ever is the B16a from 88 to 00. Same thing and it works
i don't think theres much competition to the b16a/b if you look at the amount of aftermarket support available and the potential it has as a 1.6L motor. sure there are other good 1.6L motors but i think the b16a/b tops them all because this.
b16a/b both the best.. 4get bout the toyota engine.. jus compare the no. of ppl driving a b16 with the ones driving the 4AG 20valve.. the ratio is like 100:1.. haha..
the best 1.6l engine is without a shadow of a doubt.. the B16 family of Honda.. and also i drive a b16a

The 4A-GE has one advantage. If your timing belt snaps, your valves don't get mashed.
my grandfather has a 4AGE AE92 corolla, its done 275kms and the only thing he has had to replace was the clutch and timing chain. thats reliability. and i found that it was a better engine to drive with than a b16a. felt punchier down low, and i love the sound of it at 7500rpm...
