White teg joins the ranks - Hi !
Hey Everyone!
Bought my late model 92 teg earlier this year for $5400 with 125,XXX km's on the clock from the original lady owner (god bless those lady owners) and I love her!!
Just thought I'd introduce myself as this site has been the best find ever! I'm no mechanic but OzHonda has inspired me to learn as much as I can about my teg as I can.
Since joining here as a member, and using the knowledge found on these pages I have...
- learnt how to reset my ECU
- learnt and performed a power steering flush (glad to have that red muck out of my system) and replaced with gen Honda fluids
- changed air filter
- gained a bucket load of knowledge on tire pressures, tire choices, suspension setups, exhaust systems, intake systems etc
- installing rear taillights
After reading all about power mods etc I resisted the temptation to throw some money at the I/H/E and decided to first get her running beautifully at stock. First service was at Honda dealership (I know I'm paying for the guy who greets you in the morning) who did the usual fluids etc plus I got the tappets done. Glad I did as they were too tight!!!
Anyhow then I figured probably best best was to even out all round performance/drivability so the next things I'm looking at are handling related...
Plans for my baby include:
- c-drives going on this week (quote $560 on the car @ 195/60/14)
- K&N panel filter in the mail ($95 delivered ! go the aussie dollar!!)
- Awaiting quote on Endless brake pads
- koni yellows/ GC quoted on from states for $999 US delivered (holding on these for cash flow)
- X-Force header and catback system quoted on $1000 on car (maybe save up a bit more for TODA quality header instead - the decisions the decisions!)
- Hondata s100 with tune
- replace rear bumper (maybe add lips kits)
- EK side skirts
- HD clutch and lightened flywheel (actually probably first power mod to go on)
- rob a bank (j/k) :P
Scarey thing is I was never really a "car guy" untill I found my teg and this site - damn you guys :P !
Anyhow I've attached some piccys (to avoid ban) and yes she has altezzas atm (cheers Vtegra for perfect easy transaction) but of course I kept the stockies just in case...
(altezzas are a whole different story and b4 u start yes I know they are prolly defectable although i have gone to measures to at least ensure the indicators flash amber - so far so good... oh and I bought these b4 i knew the definition of RICE lol)
Thanks for reading and THANkS for this awesome site !!
See ya round,
Joe

Welcome mate, glad you get lots out the forum. You've really covered your ass on explaining your mods so no one should call you a ricer lol, that's funny.....
Nice low km car there, I love DA's with factory skirts and lips fitted all round (hint hint), not a fan of altezza but each to their own.
Good work

Hi Joe,
Really nice car - Hey, good mod plans given that you're new to modifications.
Try not to spend too much - Just do the routine servicing to keep the car in good running order.
I'd hold back on the Exhaust/Headers for now, definately will go with the tyres and suspension first.
Drive the car for a few thousand kays first and get to know the car before doing anything.
Good luck.

shouldnt this be in the introduction section,
but hello~
-
Oh yeah Intro section sounds like a good idea Feel free to move it Mods, thx
Btw got the c-drives on - yummy. I feel MUCH safer now putting power down. Grip is so much improved over whatever crap they had on for RWC.... now for that body roll...
On a side note my passenger power window hasn't worked since approx week 1 of ownership when it suddenly ceased functioning. Then last weekend as i was driving home on the freeway, cranking our the tunes I noticed the bass was shaking the shitoutta that window, which reminded me to get it fixed b4 summer hits for real. THEN to my complete surprise and gratitude the window started working again!!
I do believe House music fixed my car ! :P
-
I know this is going to sound stupid but did you check the switch to disable the passengers side window.
-
Hehe I'm a Newb but not that big a newb
I figure it must be a loose connection, or the glass slipping off the rails or some-much-thang... either way at least i know the motor for the window still works!
Thanks for the suggestion tho
-
Haha just checking. I bump the switch every so often and I usually remember about it around the time I've got all the tools out and I'm about to start ripping off the door trim.
-
welcome.. c-drives are an awesome wet weather tyre too.. good choice..

Thanks mate,
Yes, omg the traction is so much better than the crap the previous owner had on. Drove them in the rain the other day and it was blissfull... so confidence inspiring. Makes launching a little more fun too (naturally only up to the speed limit :P)
Replaced my brake pads last week with rb74's on front and some of their (Race Brakes) standard compounds on the back (at their recommendation - I think they didn't have rb74's to fit the rears on LS's). Man do these puppies feel nice. Cold braking feels about the same as stock but after a few intersections, as they start to warm up, they just bleed off speed so seamlessly. So far the major negatives I've read about the rb74 compound haven't surfaced - thats is I've got no braking squeal and very little dust. will keep an eye on rotor wear.
Next stop suspension upgrade - looking at either Koni yellow / GC combo or Tokico Illumina Kit. Can anyone here source me some Tokico's? I asked for a quote from a local supplier on the Koni's and his price on the front pair was almost as much as the set of 4 shipped form US!! Some people are making a killing on our strong dollar here in Aus.
She's coming together nicely and I'm glad I went drivability over power first.... although I wish the paychecks would come a bit quicker
So many dreams so little money lol
Oh question for those in the trade. Whats a standard hourly labour rate for mechanical work atm? Obviously it ranges depending on the places facilities/exp . Last place I got work done at was $88/hr, and they quoted me about $400 to put on suspension f I supplied it.... is this about right?
Cheers lads (and ladies )
