    Civic FD1 (1.8L R18) turbo kits

    For those who are interested in following this; I thought I'd make a new thread. I doubt i'll ever do it since by the time I can get a turbo (i.e. off green P's), I'll move onto another car .. but for other OH members.

    From what I can tell from reading various sites; there are a few different brands of turbo kits for the R18.

    A summary from JDMHONDACIVICFD.BLOGSPOT.COM;
    Turbo charge a JDM R18 FD civic?
    Currently there are 3 kits that i am aware of.
    1. Zage Kit
    2. AJP Kit
    3. Speedlab Kit??

    The latter, i am not so sure if its stable.

    So which kit will i recommend for the R18?
    I am a supporter of Japanese after market parts.
    After all our civic are made in japan.

    In my case i will go for the Zage Kit with some customisations to
    the pipings to suit your engine bay.
    The reason? Although Zage turbo kit is made in Taiwan,
    it was tested and dyno tuned in conjunction with HKS Taiwan.
    HKS is one of leader in japanese motorsports specialising in
    turbo charged cars.

    Some info on the Taiwan kit is available (not in English): http://www.hondacivic-fd2.com/travel...onda-civic-fd1

    Another quote regarding the kit;
    A preview of my Honda Civic.
    Turbo charged 2006 jdm civic fd1 1.8litre.
    Equipped with the Zage Turbo Kit for R18
    Tuned by HKS with Fcon IS ECU.
    Running on 0.55 psi.How many horse power?
    Currently running at around 210 horse power.
    Lookout for more stories ahead.
    And finally, a bit of Googling will get you info on the Zage kit (incl. a 6min youtube dyno video);

    Yeah i'd prefer a low'ish psi supercharger... AJP have been a bit dodgy as of late - or so I hear.

    superchargers own....but then u wont have that tastey b.o.v sound?

    from cost effective point of view, which one is more expensive for install and maintenance?

    Bye2 Honda... Hello Mazda family

    Well... i believe superchargers have less parts and generally are easier to install. Not by much though.

    The only issue is that superchargers have insane parasitic loss low end... and a 1.8 ltr engine isn't going to take off as well as it would stock. Really for a SC you'd want something bigger than 2 ltr engine...

    A turboed r18a will beat a supercharged r18 hands down I believe.

    I'd want something than I could run without changing the internals.

    But I do kinda like the whine of the SC... it's cool too.

    I'd still love to see a SC kit for the R18a though...

    EDIT: For Bryan Yuen

    There are none that I'm aware of. Theres a SC for the K20 powered FD2 (in whatever configuration they have in the DOHC K20 they have in the US)... but not for the R18a.
