Need some help on springs and shocks...

    hi guys...

i just got my Kings superlows installed with some bilstein shocks....

now the ride is just tooo stiff... and i can feel every little curve on the road... and sydney roads make the car feel like undriveable... even those connection lines (those horrizontal lines that connects the bridge togather.) on harbour bridge give my car a big shake (north bound)

now ... i wanna kno if it's the spring being too stiff or is it the shocks....

if i want it feel more like a stock ride.. shall i chage the springs or the shocks... anyone got any ideas if 50mm lowered cars actually rides ok...

and what will happen if i change the spring seats' height on the shocks..

thx guys.... wanna sort this out... or is it just becoz lowered car ment to have a harsh ride...

Sports shocks will make the ride harsh, but stiff springs will also do that. The thing is that the springs shouldnt be stiffer than the shocks (this is what i have, and it makes the car REALLY bouncy - i feel the bump for 2 seconds after i have gone over it )

My guess is that you have matched springs/shocks. Its bumpy, but there isnt much that can be done other than replacing the suspension.

It is something that bugs me too. I love the look, but hate the feel of a lowered car. Thats why i am already looking forward to my next car - a Toyota Celsior or Crown Majesta. Factory air suspension means you can lower the car but it keeps an extremely smooth ride (just be careful on the big bumps)

Hehe i just posted about it here:
    http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthr...9&page=1&pp=12

The pics seem to show the front as being alot higher than the rear... I think it is just the angle or something - it doesnt look like that in real life!

Oh, and the Celsior is the Japanese equivelant of the LS400, and the Crown Majesta is similar (same engine). I'd import a VIP version of either of these in a heartbeat... Just need to save a little more

BTW, if its your dad's car, give it back and buy your own Then you can choose whatever you want, and do whatever you want to it!

over-stiff spring is bouncy at moderate speeds, and will make your car feel as though its flyin off the road over bumps at speed. its not only affect performance driving but can be hazardous as well, imagine your ride struggling to stay on the road.

a good setup is firm, not harsh, and shld have good control through bumps and dips during fast corners.

i like LS400.. dad used to have taht ...
hum ... i m the only family member here ... so no one to give the car to ... i m doin uni now....

i really cant describe the feeling of the ride correctly ...

it's not bouncy (in some bumpy roads.. 1 rebound the max..)...
the problem is its sticking too tight on the road so i can feel all the uneven surface of the road...

and when it comes to port holes and those aging bridge connection lines, the springs will be fully compressed and hit the bump stop .. and make the car shakes badly...

is this normal... maybe i m being too picky

the noise could be from the bushing. and regardin the stock shocks, they r not too stiff.. its just tat shocks will wear out, meaning the movement of the shocks will not be as smooth as before.

i m on bilstein shocks already ... just that the ride are abit too harsh... so like my car goes according to the surface of the road.. the road goes up my car goes up ... and due to sydney's crappy roads... my car goes up and down in a very high frequence.. lolz...

I think the only solution is to lower it further

This wont help your problem with bumps (infact it will probably make it worse), but it will look ultra cool!

So when you are going over the bumps, and your spleen is being pounded into a pulp, you can be happy in the knowlege that at least the car looks HOT. Thats what i tell myself anyway (yes, people have told me i am sad and delusional)
