I say all the Performance workshops or specialists who do various work (with registered ABNs etc) that are memebrs of OH should be the only ones professionally qualified to +rep tech/useful posts.... but then i'm sure they didn't join OH to be librarians reading everyday
OR confirmed OK contributions in the DIY/Tech section is the only place to be able to rep.. this excludes reviews obviously... like seriously, a lot of issues should be consolidated in a "TECHNICAL" section anyway so as to prevent repeat posts... in the <2yrs i've been here i've seen some questions repaeated over and over because some don't know how to search or genuinely not know what to search for, but a lot of the answers over the months have been great and sometimes even add value to old information (ie, intellectual redundancy) and they rightfully get +PQ... but the crowd is right, it's the same people getting it over and over....
but i reckon if the main issue and purpose of PQ system is to prevent mass sellers etc.. i say stick to old school sale/membership rules which some other forums still use..
- Paid membership.. contribution bands.. even $10 i'm sure everyone can afford that measly amount, at the end of the day it's still a contribution to the forum/community
- minimum posts
- minimum time
Sorta works out in my head if the world was fair... more people pay for membership (even if each member contributed $1-$2 considering the number of members we have, it in turn alleviates sponsorship costs, sponsors HOPEFULLY decrease some of their prices.. the whole OH community contributes....
I refuse to believe that a shitload of members here can't even afford $5-$10 considering how much help some of the people get on a technical level.... in all honesty to the mods/admins/owners/etc... if you left it the way it is even i wouldn't find a need to donate/support.. the only reason i personally did was because of the tremendous amount i have learned from this site courtesy of those who contribute selflessly... shit my mechanic won't help me at 1am on an issue where others here can and have... that aside, the persons who have worked on my car (you know who you are and i rarely let others work on my car) with their "OH/mates rates" has already made up for my measly donation...
like seriously.. ppl have to realise you can't get something for nothing.. against the law of physics

ok, all previous bullshit, resentment etc aside - I fail to see what the benefit of such a system really is...
Are you guys trying to implement a system whereby those new here have a measure to rank peoples knowledge on this site? becuase clearly it is still being abused (eg my situation above)
Perhaps Wyn you could elaborate some more or if you have already point me to where it is...
At a glance this "rep" system is the only thing helping others choose who to listen to , and who not to ( when it comes to technical posting).
No other reason behind it.
Mind you lot , there are many examples of online forums that have tried and failed with a similar system. Can anyone link a forum out there with a not-so abused rep system ?
but look if they contribute that much useful info, 5 to 6 helpful posts a day
theyll def be noticed and climb the green dots ladder in no time
ther are lots of members wer this is the case
admittedly, i noticed JohnL is one of these
