Well said. I am about to own my 5th honda (new Accord) and I am totally seconding your opinion. Honda have always over charges for accessories, because they know they have you by the cherries.

For example.. how the hell am I going find an aftermarket boot floor tray perfectly molded to the boot shape? Here what I have been quoted for the new accord accessories:

Boot Tray $250 (nice to have)
Boot bumper protector $250 (protects the bumper when draging stuff in and out - nice to have)
Carpet Mats $250 (once again perfectly molded - but you need it)
Reversing sensors $1100 (shoot! but they are the best looking in class)
Tinting $495 (can get later I suppose)
Chrome grille $580
Rear garnish $220 (2 tiny strips of chrome on tail lamps)
Bluetooth $895 (far out man! But you need it)

... I was to scared to ask about any other others

Another thing that sh!ts me is that they don't have a standard dealer accessory price list. It's always POA - no RRP publicised anywhere. Honda should let customer be aware of these things before impulses buying set in. It would also help with price negotiations because at the moment it is an open ticket for the dealer make as much from the accessories as possible.

If honda doesn't want to be seen as the culprit of ripping us off - then they need to standardise their option pricing like the majority of other manufacturers and not let the dealer "rule the roost"

i am totally agree with u, EuroBro. Honda should like the accessories list clearly, not just give chance to dealer to rip us off. for the bluetooth system, i bought one from guy work in honda around $330 and just get the quote about installation fee for it from dealer around 200 bucks. accroding that, i still can save heaps of money compare to dealer offer.

I don't have an Accord. I hope they sell lots because it appears to be a good car although, strangely, the current edition of Motor Magazine did not mention it once between the covers.

its hot just honda who have expensive aftermarket parts, this is just the way all dealers work. If you look at audi, etc its the same thing, optiona the car up and your paying another 15K just to get it fully optioned.

At the end of the day you either can afford it or not. If you cannot deal with the expensive price list then you should be looking at toyota, suzuki's or other slightly cheaper brands of cars, as they MAY have cheaper aftermarket parts.

I love hondas and have owned a few already in the past and im over the prices, just bargain and bargain!

Its not just cars, it was on the news yesterday about supermarkets overpricing food in Australia, our softdrink, milk, egg, bread are more than double of what Americans are paying, i think this is BS, they have higher average salary, lower tax over there.

I think a lot of cars are over-priced. I think we should compare more often with with other countries of similar level of development.

I'm not trying to stir you up either but I find it amazing that everyone agrees we're being ripped-off, not just on new cars but their accessories as well and yet you won't recognise it.

Comparing with other countries just shows how artificial and contrived the price of cars is. They seem to have little basis on actual cost to manufacture and more on what the local mugs are prepared to be ripped-off by.

In another post in this thread, you list the supposed "correct" prices for accessories against those quoted by another member. You just prove the point on the rip-off. Dealers are inventing their own prices, which they are entitled to do, but with no basis whatsoever in what the things really cost and with a unreasonable margin added. This is called profiteering and Australians are getting sick of it.

You keep on telling us to shop around. Many consumers don't have the option.

Where I live, there is only one Holden dealer who is also the only Nissan, Mazda, Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Mercedes and Hummer dealer. The only Ford dealer is also the only Subaru, Porsche, Audi and Proton dealer. The only Mitsubishi dealer is also the only Suzuki and Volvo dealer. The only Toyota dealer is also the only Lexus dealer. The sole (excellent) Honda dealer for 1,500km radius is also the only Volkswagen dealer. We don't get Renaults, Peugeots, Ferrari (although we used to), Skoda, Fiat, Alfa etc.

Let's see. I'm getting ripped off on a Holden Epica. Maybe I should go to the other side of the showroom to the "Mazda Dealer". They won't rip me off will they?

							LOLOLOL gold blokes!

at the end of the day, its what u pay to drive your car out. If ur not happy, dont buy it!

Acessories will always be expensive, thats a fact of life and thats the same with all makes of cars.
If u want them, add the prices to the new price of the car then start negotiating! its really simple.

When I bought my Euro back in 04, I got them to throw in the mats, mud flaps, dealer delivery and on roads all in for free. It's not impossible. How are your bargaining skills?

supply and demand, what ppl are willing to pay is what they will sell for.

theres alot of other factors as to why things cost differently in different countries, like govt tariffs, competition etc. australia has significant tariffs cars built outside of oz, or the great falcodores would of been extinct a long time ago, or built somewhere else. a friend from Switzerland was thinking about the new lexus 400h, its approx 95k in oz, 55k in US and 80k in CH, big differences, he is thinking about importing from US and it would be cheaper to pay the 5-10k for transport, changing lights etc. we can complain all we like but i dont htink its gonna change,

we just need to bargain a bit more. as like aaron i bargained, i got free car mats, tint.

i also dont consider blue tooth, boot liner, scruff guard, and chrome grills necessities, so as want items they will always atrract higher prices.
