    Adjusting Cam Gears

    Hi guys

I've got some TODA SPEC A cams atm and have been using standard cam gears. I was wanting to know what is involved in dialing in adjustable ones. Is it something that has to be done on dyno or something i can do myself?

    Any info apreciated

good luck for the search...you'll definately need'em...
find "those people" which doesn't need to "dail a degree at a time", and "run your car on the dyno" to check the power figure...

Your cam data sheet will tell you how to set up your cams.

You should set it to 0 for the time being
Adjusting the cam gears need to be done on the dyno for best results

thanks for the reply, some very informative info you got there.
I know how to adjust the gears but adjusting it for best power/results is my concern.

I guess its something to for a pro to do.

Ok, B16A~B18C TODA Spec A cam data is as follows:

    Intake:
    Advertised duration 290deg @ 11.6mm (High cam)
    Primary intake 9.0mm
    Secondary intake 6.0mm
Valve clearance (at normal temp) 0.2mm

    @ 1mm lift
High cam opens @ 20deg BTDC
High cam closes @ 50deg ABDC
    LCA 105deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 250deg
    ----------------------------
Intake secondary opens @ 10deg ATDC
Intake secondary closes @ 30deg ABDC
    LCA 110deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 200deg
    ----------------------------
Intake primary opens @ 20deg ATDC
Intake primary closes @ 20deg ABDC
    LCA 110deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 180deg

    -------------------------------

    Exhaust:
    Advertised duration 280deg @ 11.2mm (High cam)
    Primary exhust 8.5mm
    Secondary exhaust 5.5mm
Valve clearance (at normal temp) 0.2mm

    @ 1mm lift
High cam opens @ 45deg BBDC
High cam closes @ 15deg ATDC
    LCA 105deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 240deg
    ----------------------------
Exhaust secondary opens @ 30deg BBDC
Exhaust secondary closes @ 10deg BTDC
    LCA 110deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 200deg
    ----------------------------
Exhaust primary opens @ 20deg BBDC
Exhaust primary closes @ 20deg BTDC
    LCA 110deg
    Duration @ 1mm is 180deg

As cams are asymetric, it's easier to time the cam using lift @ 1mm method with degree wheel than to use peak lift value.
Be sure valve clearance is correct before timing cams.
    Hope that helps,
    Cheers
