    Generic Extractors Worth While?

my car currently has a 2.5" cat back system. before i bought it i also test drove a stock ap1.

now the stock ap1 did seem faster to me.

my question is will adding generic branded 2.5" stainless steel headers be better, no effect or lose more power?

what do you mean by generic? Ebay stuff for $200 bucks? or J's racing header worth $1500?

Imo, the header should be one of the last modifications to the car. The oem unit is very well designed and is very efficient. Even with a header such as the J's Racing header you will see very minimal gains. You will be paying $1500 or so on engine bay bling and abit of weight savings. Hardly seems worth it.
By putting on cheap crap more than likely you will lose overall performance.

I remember having a HKS 4-1 header, top end felt great but i lost power at the mid range and the car felt laggy (bottom end kick is what our cars need).

In terms of exhaust a single outlet 70mm exhaust would be ideal for our cars. The weight savings alone would be worth the change. The oem cat back weighs about 25KG!!

This is a dyno graph showing before and after installation of a Toda Racing header.

Gains are minimal. Hope this helps.

yeh that does help. thanks and it was just a cheapo $200 from ebay. guess i stay away from it.

i had a feeling it would make it worse due to the fact the older stock AP1 felt faster.

Dude, no way should you put anything on your car that isnt top-quality.. Its almost definitely going to decrease performance.

This reminds me of an S I looked at a few months ago - it had coloured autotecnica (!!) wiper and gearknob.. I almost slit my wrists right then and there. So gay.

Have you done a service and replaced all fluids (including the diff) after you bought the S?

not just yet i will get a complete service done probably next month including all oils etc.

but the car has a full service history from honda and it has just had its 10k km service. could do with a 5k km oil change but thats about it.

10k km is low, what year S2000 is this? It will take more mileage for the engine to be run in properly too. How many kms did the stock S2000 have?
