Yeh, even with a tray under my filter, oil still goes everywhere, its not a clear path between the filter and the ground for my d16y4, theres shit in the way which cops the oil.
Nothing a rag and quick spray of degreeser wont fix though.

so mobil synth S semi synth will be fine for a D16Y4 ?

i just got the car so not sure what its been running so im thinking of going semi synth then fully synthetic after a few changes does that sound ok ?

and can i use cheap ryco filters

What viscosity is the Mobil Synth S? If it is 0w-30, 5w-30, 10w-30, 0w-40, 5w-40, 10w-40, it will be fine. Ryco filters should be ok, but I'd rather stick to OEM.

so guys im about to do mine and im changing the filter with it

was wondering what type of filter tool is best to use i tryed using one of the basic tools and it keeps slipping thru / not going tight enough to go around the tiny ass filter

I'm usually able to get mine off by hand, they're not supposed to be too tight.

Honda does sell a filter tool. Looks like a cap which goes over the end of the filter. Indispensable tool!

i find that the tool with the canvas belt works best (as opposed to the all steel one), but if you can buy the Honda tool it may be better... when you change the filter, do it as tight as you can BY HAND, ensure you get some oil on the seal to help get it off next time, and check for leaks after you replace it.

I've got one of those oil filter removal tools that attaches to a socket wrench but it's a bit of a nuisance to use.



It looks a bit like that. More recently I've just used a jar opening cloth and found that much much easier, looks like one of these:



It's just a rubber cloth you use to unscrew jar lids but it's excellent for unscrewing oil filters too!
