Recommend me a tyre

Hi guys, i know there is a tyre recommendation thread but it is too broad.

Anyways i need to get some brand new 215/45 R17 tyres for my Euro for all 4 sides but didn't want to spend too much money.

The Kumho Ku31 was quoted at $110 each side, the Falken 912 over $160, Dunlop Sp9000 for $190, Bridgestone ER300, i think he said $180 and so on.

Everyone is saying the Kumho suck but i'm reading the reviews on the net and they seem to love it. The tyre shop said the Kumho was very noisy, and that is something i need to be quiet on.

I don't know what to do, what do you guys think?

budget => nankangs, would do the job alright for daily street use...

imo, Bridgestone RE001 is bang for buck, not that expensive and excellent performance

I havent had any problems with the kumho, great for the money, nankang on the other hand........(which i dont stock in any size unless specifically wanted by a customer)

my personal experience in 15" and 16" tyres...

goodyear f1
bridgestone re711, re010, G3, etc
hankook h424, k104
and other cheap brands like nankang, etc

of all the ones i've used, imho the best bang for your buck and great performing is the hankook h424 (i use them daily, 205/45/16). they were $140 compared to the "better" brands like goodyear f1 and bs g3 which were about $190 a corner. i think it'll suit your semi-sport/street needs as it's not as noisy as other street performance tyres (like k104). they have newer silica compound so they're supposed to last longer...

after using them, i probably wont go back to the traditional bridgestone or goodyear tyres... loving the silica! lol.

Thanks anyways guys, being a budget i had the Kumho in sight, so i went it to get the Kumho Ku31.

As soon as i got there, the guy agreed but recommended the Dunlops, which i didn't even read up on. He gave it to me for $145 a corner for 225/45R17.

They were the Dunlop Direzza DZ101.

I bought them, and just hoping i made the right decision.

BTW, does anyone know the recommended psi for these tyres of this size? Cause it seems a bit hard on the road.

DZ101 a very good tyre, well made, low noise and rides pretty well . Great price you got there, thought they would be more like $190-220 price range at least for your size. Were they on specials?

Often tyre shop overinflate tyres when they mount the tyres and not nec equal on all 4 tyres either. I would try 32psi front and 30psi cold inflation pressure to start off with go from there.

Nah, off the bat he said $150 and with my poor negotiating skills, i could only bring it down a further $5 to $145.

Hankook Ventus K104s run fine.

Shopping around and Taleb Tyres a trader on this board honestly have unbeatable prices on that profile... when i was shopping around couldn't beat em... only problem was i was in melb.

PS - i am not getting paid for that plug.

ps, RE001's in 215/45/17 can be bought for $250 per corner.

BTW Yes the dunlop are good tyres, better than the kumho.

brought a Bridgestone RE001 225/45/17 for $289, fitted and balanced from Bridgestone centre in melbourne.
