Which splits to run without amp?

I'm looking for a decent splits to run off the HU. Several ones spring to mind like the Jaycar Kevlar, Focal 165 A1 or the MB Quart ESA216. So price range is around $250. Please give me your suggestions or whether the ones I'm looking at will perform well.

Are you sure the discus can be had for $250? Cheapest I've seen is $380 for a set.

at least get a small 2x50wrms amp to run it.
no proper enthusiast will recommend running any splits of 18wRms of headunit power.

you would be lucky with 18WRMS from the headunit.

If you compare a full amp circuitry that's nearly twice the size of a standard heaunit.

It's no wonder external amps sound better than headunit amps.

My pick would be 08 alpine Type-R splits[$250-RRP$299] + $100-$200 amp [if you are budgeting, any reasonable external amp will be better than the headunit]

And don't right of the new alpine type-R's, they are VERY nice speakers, if not better than the MB discus, the MB's have a very harsh cheapo tweeter, whereas the new Type-R's are more smoother and iirc they are scanspeak.
[btw this is coming from a Morel speaker owner, i highly rate the type-R's for under $300 budget]

The only plus points for the MB are its incredible midbass production. [very punchy]

most people wouldnt be impressed by excessively bright tweeters that are harsh on the ears... each to their own.

back a year or so ago they were being sold for around $250. didnt know their price has increased THAT much

i recently sold my brand-new, never used, mint-condition mb's for MUCH less than HALF of $380, simply cus they werent worth much more than that & could be had for 200ish..

guess you're not lookin around or haggling enough.

out of the ones you mentioned, which one did u like the most (if you demo'd them)
