    why change the shift nob?

ive been around for a while and done tonnes of research on modifications etc

one thing i have been meaning to ask about is the shift nob

its not an essential part of the car so i have always overlooked it, i just watched the 'drift bible' movie, now i know this doesnt really have mutch to do with honda, but when examining the S14 series 1 used in the 1st segment the guy mentions that he 'upgraded' the shift nob

i have read recent threads about it on here and seen them for sale in the traders sections...

now my question is... what is the point of changing it?

i mean, the shift nob in my DC2 was pretty sweet, i thought it was nice, alot of people change them to little balls or steel nobs

the standard shift nobs in many sports cars are already pretty sweet, even the one in our families EG8 isnt bad

also wouldnt a metal one heat up in the sun?

the weight movement of the knob

    sometimes it 'feels' better

imo most of time its a appearance thing

i installed a short shifter and it is a lil stiffer changing gears coupled with a spoon gearknob(lightweight gearknob)

i then changed to a skunk2 gearknob which is pretty weighty

now with the short shifter it 'feels' like shifting with more ease from the weight of a gearknob

i am quite happy with the way it is now.

    Looks,weight,shape,height and personal preference.
Ye metal ones do get hot from the sun and the heat transfer from the exhaust underneath the shifter.

Its difficult to find a nice gearknob. The best so far is the original DC2r n DC5r knob and skunk2 knob. The knob that modproject are selling is also not bad. Well, each to his individual taste

Changing to a heavier knob actually fixed my problem of a gritty feeling when shifting from 1st to 2nd.

I'm using the Buddy club shifter (Type B) and I love it.

Feels smoother to change, better grip / grasp on the shifter.

heard good things about the SKUNK2 / DC2R one also.
