i can tell you FD is the chassis code given by Honda to the latest generation of Civics....as for the number after the FD , just represents different variants of Civics from around the world or country.. For example.. the sport..vti..basic model...

Just lyk older generation before the current those chassis were also given codes for example EP..EM.. Ek...EG..Etc

The 2 in this case of the FD2 stands for the Civic Sport.......I think...

like others have said its just the title to the car
like VE commodore or BA Falcon

    Or honda example EK
    comes in EK1 EK4 EK9 etc
different model variants stamped on VIN
    ie. EK9xxxxxxxxxx

    It actually says FD2R??

People have to stop putting an R at the end when specifying, I had a guy come up to me crying saying he bought a fake Type R, because his chassis code wasn't DC2R, it was just DC2 - LOL.

^^ LOL so true. There isn't an R at the end but ppl like to put that in to differentiate the car. It is the 2 or 3 digits after "FD2" which signifies whether it is a Sport or a Type R.

^ Yeh that's true, my bad

but everyone seems to call the JDM ctr FD2R though...

unless someone could check an actual VIN of a sport and a jdm ctr to clarify which numbers follow after it.. it'll be kinda confusing though.

    eg. FD2134 :P
