    Honda civic coupe VTi - vtec doesnt kick in

    My mate has a honda civic coupe and he didnt know it was vtec until i pointed out the vtec solenoid in his engine and confirmed his engine number as d16y8 and his ej8 stamp... i redlined his car and didnt hear any vtec switchover..his car has an exhaust and i took off his cover on his filter just to be sure...cuz its sohc can you hear anything or is just not noticeable....lol my mate thought he had a gli coupe the whole time..is their something wrong with his car??

    the ej8 (ek civic coupe VTI) has a sohc d16, so its NOT a vtec engine. my mate has one also, he wasnt happy with the power so upgraded to a b16a.

    d16y8 has vtec

    d16y4 no vtec

    its very hard to hear vtec on SOHC motors. Mayb hook up a VTEC light LOL

    EJ8 (coupe) is SOHC VTEC. EK sedan is non vtec (except JDM Ferio)

    i can hear mine kick in yo! so yeah maybe there is somthing wrong
    its only on the intake side remember though

    5500-5600rpm
    some people say it comes in earlier though

    my d comes in at 5k lol and the ek vti's did have a vtec model

    I have an EJ8 and I can CLEARLY hear it kick in, the engine hs 300,000kms on it.

    It is a D16Y8.
