Bolt on Turbo or Rebuild
Earlier in the year i asked a commonly asked question, should i buy a second engine with lower k's? And add a bolt on turbo kit, or rebuild my own B16a still adding a turbo kit and if so which one. I was tossing up between a Greddy kit or a Revhard kit for lower performance and more reliability, basically the only difference i found between the two was the Revhard kit had a front mount setup and the price. I have a 93model crx with a b16a with 217000 kms
With a 10 grand bugget can a rebuild be possible with descent results
what do you recommend, Forged pistons, Injectors, ecu, etc and also any gearbox upgrade without complication?
(Keeping in mind it's my daily drive and require reliability!)

Hey mate you could get a rebuild and turbo kit all done with no problems for $10,000 especially if you do the annoying stuff for the engine builders like pulling out and putting back in the engine. Or check this link out for a good buy http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93420
Everything you need...

why not sell your b16a and gear box for a good price and put that money with the 10k towards a k24 set up...
would be awesome...
you'd have a much newer motor
heaps of torque
and should be super reliable and make for a very good daily!

i would stick with your own engine and do a rebuild, then boost it................u may need to blow that budget a little thow.............but then again, depends how far you want to go...............if the engine aint showing any signs of wear.........and is still okay, just boost it............do a full comp test and leak down test and then decide with ur builder/tuner if rebuild is required.............
thats my opinion

Dean (DLO01) turbo'd his del sol when it had over 200,000k's on it. had no problems at all. Good reliable setup.
It was an avo kit i believe.

I want a bit more performance more hoping to get around 15 psi, (dont require track times or anything) thats why i considered rebuild and also i cant find anything on avo kits. nudge in the right direction would be great

stock motor (new or old) won't run 15 psi without seriously causing reliability issues.
10 ish should be your max depending on your tuner.
if you wanna go higher you'll need a forged rebuild.

Another thing is i would like to keep my a/c and p/s! someone told me about a TOPFUEL 1000 B-series bolton kit but i cant find anywhere that supplies them

Avo sell AC and PS friendly kits:
http://www.avoturbo.com/avoshop/
Also the US companies have kits that retain your AC and PS
Check out:
Peakboost
Full Race
AFI
Love Fab
etc
You need to know exactly what you want. Your motor might be fine to boost as it is and you'll get over 150kw @ wheels if its done right. You could buy a second hand B16A2 with lower kms and boost that. If your gonna build your motor it will open the doors for some awsome power and it would be a waste to use a little bolt on kit.

but the thing is you have no idea of what sort of life the other engine had, as with yours, you already know how it drives, what probs exist if any.
i'd just boost it as is, plenty of parts to make a good setup within your budget. also if your worried about the condition of your engine make sure its tuned rich to be on the safe side of things. the only gearbox upgrades i'd think about is a good clutch kit and maybe reco the gearbox if its playing up atm like syncros etc.otherwise stock settings is fine.
when you talk to your mech, ask them to put together a kit that they would be suitable, then brake it down into parts and decide if thats the parts "you" really need or can i go for a alternative cheaper/branded/new/used/bigger/smaller etc
i went through exactly the same process.. asking heaps and researching on what other ppl have done.
