Crank Pulley

Hi All

The below pulley is off a B16A1 , just wondering if anyone has machined off the end (red line) as this is not required, Iam not using air con! so just leaving the two belt grooves/pulleys



This would obviouly need to be balanced aswell Iam assuming?

Any help appreciated

I took mine off with our Lathe, I haven't run it yet. I have not had the oppotunity to get it perfectly balanced but for the time being it should do the job.

I would say one thing, becareful that you dont remove too much else. It would be nice to remove the next pully but you will find that the inside of the whole unit is cone shapped and if you machine next pully nothing will be holding up the 3rd pully!

Just a bit of a note: If you remove that section of the pulley you will have to use a strap wrench or something alike (instead of the honda/hex pulley tool) to be able to brace/hold the pulley when installing or removing.

Making an already (sometimes) difficult job, that much more difficult.

I personally wouldn't modify it. Probably due to the fact that I had alot of trouble removing mine (was intact and using the honda pulley tool to brace it). But if I had to i'd probably do it like this:



You'd still have to make ensure that it gets balanced etc.

people do shave crank pulleys
i was wanting to do it, but as omgzilla said, you will lose the hex.. and because i like to DIY, that would be too much of a burden


obviously the point destrukshn is to remove rotating weight from the engine
same theory as lighter flywheels (although people debate this)

For me personally I needed to remove the end pully because it wouldnt fit in the engine bay of my 1st gen. I totally aggree with omgzilla, it will make it so much harder to get off. If its that much of an issue you can always buy an aftermarket pully.
