    final drive in EG civic

Currently planning to replace the OEM EG4 Civic final drive
with a MFactory final drive. What is the stock final drive?

Plans are to go for the 4.9FD. Being a bone stock engine,
what improvements can be expected without changing other
gears? Obviously the 4.9FD will give less top end speed.
So moving from the stock FD to the 4.9, how much am i losing?
Is there a method to calculate this? Top speed is probably
    around 180km/h?

For daily driving and mild circuit application, should I be
looking into any other FDs? 4.5? 4.7?

    Cheers
    Mike

www.carsales.com.au's research section has the stock final drive info.

haha cheers for that, was trying to look for it in redbook...
so the stock final drive is 4.25:1

in that case, would a 4.9FD lower the top end speed too much?
currently the motor is bone stock status, but the goal is to
reach 130kw @ flywheel on an all motor build. The higher FD
just seems to be first on the list for experimental purposes
i guess. Should this mod be delayed to a later point in the
    build?

Doing the math, if you do 3000rpm at 100km/h now with the 4.25, then you'd end up with about 3500rpm with the 4.9.

thanks for that dude! that was really useful

For a relatively stock engine, I'd go with a 4.9 yay!
You'll find that theoretically your top speed is limited, but you get better acceleration and it takes less time to get to that Top speed which is sufficient if you play around the tracks in NSW

So for a higher horsepower that has the capability to reach the higher speeds,
it would be better to use a lower FD because they can actually reach those
higher speeds and it takes less time for them to accelerate to that speed anyway?

your top speed reduction wont be noticed coz you should never be going 220+ kmph... instead you get much better acceleration
