    Carbing 3point strut - Install Adivce

    Hey guys

    Basically just had a long tireing wait for a carbing 3point strut for my eg sedan. Haveing a little bit of trouble maneuvering it into position.

    Is there anyone who has done the job before who could give me some basic advice or tricks to getting it in?

    jack up your tow hook until it line up the first two point ( not the fire wall one )
    Do the firewall point last.

    3 point strut for under the bonnet??

    i had an edelbrock one for a while and it was a piece of cake to put on. It was quite close to the IM though and with the standard mounts it used to hit with enough engine movement... :s

    correct 3point strut, i thought it would be easy in theory but in real life its quite hard.

    When you say jack the car up, should the nuts be removed from the strut tops? so the threds lower down?

    must be a good brace if you can only just fit it on

    there is 2 types , to suit ek and to suit eg/dc too....its the 3rd mounting point that slightly differs. hope you have the right one.

    as said before , get the front of the car off teh ground to prevent chassis flex , install into place and lightly tighten nuts. then drop down the car , get it on 100% flat ground then finally properly torque the nuts to the correct specs

    its deffniately the correct brace its just hard to get all the points on... especially considering i have the small edfc motors too.

    at the moment i have the drivers side in place..., the firewall in place just the passenger side needs to move over the strut bolts (it will fit but the base isnt 100% squre to the struts as they are naturally angled. (hard to describe).

    i was thinking dropping one of the struts from the lower controll arm to get the strut bar in place and then fixing back into position... ehhh can of worms for a different day.

    you losely install one side, and then jack up the other side of the car. this will slightly flex the chassis inwards to get the strut bolts to line up with the other side of the brace. once you got the strut bolts hand tight, then do up the firewall ones a little bit to. then do the struts up tight, then the firewall tight too.

    What about one of these? It only has 2 points, are these things easy to fit?

    - the reason why the carbing and rigid struts are so good is because they are solid. ie no adjustment points. In any strut that has adjustment points finds its weak spot right there. All the flex and torsion happens throughout those points, making the bar poor in performance, yes it will appear firm and solid when you hit it with your hand but different story when you have the whole weight of the chassis acting upon it, yes it is easier to fit, but if you are looking for proper strut operation you cannot forsee the performance of a solid strut or straight weld how ever you want to address it.
