whats wrong with the shifter? is it hitting on the exhaust??? because when i put a shortshifter in mine it was still a few inches away from hitting the cat.

having said this u may need to mount the exhaust lower down if it hits the shifter there not surposed to be to close to the body because u will get heat transfer through the body...

If the shifter is hitting the exhaust, either move the exhaust or the shifter. It's a prelude exhaust that doesn't fit, knowing about any other exhausts won't help you.

I easily fitted 3" pipe from the engine back straight until the fuel tank bend, with around 1cm to the short shifter's base (no heat shield). Ground clearance a little worse than stock but more than adequate. The stock bend doesn't help miss the shifter. The shifter is directly above the exhaust tunnel which is not directly inline with the B-pipe from the headers (but can be if you angle the whole lot).

Cut out a few sections and reweld so that it goes --\__/-- instead of ------, get a stock shifter, or get a new exhaust.

Don't call someone a tight arse for being resourceful. Why waste a perfectly good exhaust because it needs an hour of modifying?

As the 'DA9 king' I thought you'd be accustomed to being resourceful by now

Thanks for that helpful information Captain Obvious, in the end I will have paid around $350 for a complete Stainless Steel 2.25 exhaust, and that includes an X-Force cat (saving money for now)

My current exhaust does have a \____/ bend, so will just get a piece bent the same and it will be all good to go, the bends on the new system are a work of art, would be a shame not to try and get it to fit, from after the shifter its a perfect match up to and over the suspension, and will go nicely to my Tanabe SS muffler (dont want to use the one on the new system as its a 4 inch tip....

Thanks for all the people who have given positive advice.

    Cheers

i dont see 350 bucks worth salvaging for a old exhaust system... to be honest its not worth the headache trying to get something to fit when u can get a new one for that price... thats y i said ur a tight ass not because ur trying to make something else fit....

the people who do exhaust systems charge bugger all for that kind of thing and for the work they do its crazy he would agree with me u have to cut and weld different pipes etc.

    thats all im saying

I still can't believe you're advocating getting a whole new exhaust instead of modifying a small section of his current exhaust - where is the advantage? The very most he should do is take the prelude exhaust to an exhaust shop and get them to modify it for an hour's pay.

It is irritating me the emphasis you are placing on the difficulty of modifying a piece of steel tubing. Headache? Hassle? If a few cuts and 3 welds brings you to your knees, perhaps it's time to scrap the turbo project, the DA9 is an interesting beast to boost.

    my turbo is done...

and i do this shit for a living saying that thats y i wouldnt waste time with exhaust pipes because its a shit job...

thats y u pay the grubby guy at the exhaust shop to stuff around with either it be reuse an exhaust or make a new one... its 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other....

i take it u dont weld often either?? unless u do it all the time u wont get a weld like the guys at the exhaust shop or a boilermaker will thats where ur headaches r.. welding pipe is shit

u make it out to be simple shit but its an art weather u use new or old materials (if old theres more work in prep anyways)

have u got any pics for us then???

He said it fits perfectly except for the shifter section. Perhaps if he had a stock shifter it wouldn't rub, but that's not the point - it's just one section! Why replace the whole exhaust when the same shop could just fix one section. Just think it's a waste of money but do as you wish.

my short shifter is the same underneath the car how is urs lower?

im not arguing with u guys over a shitty exhaust system who gives a ****... ive done that before with my old supra and i took the old exhaust and said fix it and ill pick it up in a hr i paid 80 bucks it was done and i drove away and looked way better then anything i could weld and i was happy with it... its not hard

dont get carried away with it mate its done now and he shelled out to get it done i wouldve done the same thing so good on him... now move on

as for my turbo setup i need the exhaust done and im getting it done at a shop thats y no vids

If it's the same underneath the car then it gets it shortness from simply reducing the height of the knob, thus making it much lower than stock. To retain the stock shifter location in the cabin, you need to extend the shifter between the pivot and the shifter rod. Some shifters do both and have a very short throw (chinese ebay shifters for example).
