    Installing Final Drive

    Hi All

I'm getting a clutch + flywheel done, but I'm now considering doing Final drive at the same time.

I'm thinking of Spoon 5.1 final drive. Do i need anything else? The mechanic said hell need to get bearings as well or something. And even if i supply the clutch kit + final drive, itll still cost me 700 ..is that a sh!tload or what?

to install the final drive you need to:

    remove the gearbox
    undo the casing
    remove the reverse idler gear
    remove the main shaft
    remove the counter shaft
    remove the OEM differential
    swap the final drive
    change any bearings/seals
    check the clearances
    reinstall all parts.

    its a descent job.

Cool, but isnt most of that already done when installing clutch and flywheel anyway?

Do the bearings come with the final drive?

    no way.

when installing the clutch you just remove the gear box. you don't even undo the gear box casing.

Depends what final drive you get. I can imagine it will just be the ring gear and nothing else.

and the bearings im talking about (and your mech as well) will be the Input shaft bearing, differential bearings (if needed), main/countershaft bearings (if needed).

No you only remove the gearbox from the engine when changing clutch + flywheel. It does not involve opening the actual gearbox casing.

    Got in before me lol

Also, depending what final drive ratio you are changing to/from you may need to swap the countershaft 1st gear to match the final drive
