Pioneer HU

Hi guys, on my way to work this morning, my hu decided to stop working. Well, it still works but there's no sound. It's still running as I can see the timer keeps going, the sub keeps going, just no sound from the speakers. I don't quite understand as I've had it for about 2-3 months without any issues until this morning.

Specs
Pioneer HU - DEH-P6050UB
Kicker Amp - ZX400.1
Alpine Type R 12" Sub
Infiniti Speakers [front]
Boston Acoustics Speakers [rear]

I'd appreciate any input on the matter

Theres a few reasons why your speakers might not be working if they are amped...

Did you get it installed professionally?

There might be a wire for one of your speakers that are loose, if any of these wires are touching anything metal or another wire you will be drawing too much power. If your speakers are amped its easy to check, just look on the amp and there should be a light indicating that there is too much power being drawn.

If your speakers arent amped i cant really see why they arent working.

I'll re-check the connections tonight.
I don't have an amp for speakers and they've been fine up until this morning. I've got no idea why they're not working.

these days almost all head units will mute when they see a short to ground on the speaker wiring... so it sounds like you have a short to ground on the speaker wiring...

Would the head unit just mute though? If the ground shorts, the whole thing should shut off and blow a fuse.

Thats what happened to mine any way...

mute yes, blow fuse, not really, well at least i havent come across a deck that has had a blown fuse due to shorting out the speaker wires...

in the old days the sound would be distorted and the output chip would heat up that much that it blew, these days engineers from known manufacturers of head units have the output chips mute when a short on the speaker wire is detected...
