I would also recommend Focal splits for the front. They have a good range at various price points from about $250 up. (This may be way off, but I bought mine a while ago.) I think they are awesome splits and provide a really good sound. If you get the ones with the 6 inch woofer, it should tide you over until you can find space for a sub. (Nothing can replace a well set up sub though)

to be more specific to help ya out, with your budget of $1000ish for splits you're probably lookin to audition morel elates, dynaudio esotecs, boston acoustic pro60s, mb quart premiums, plus others.

bring a cd you're familiar with and have a listen to those splits with your tunes. happy auditioning

considering you don't want subs these are the best 6x9s i've tried for a good balance in mid/trele + bass.

only one shop in australia i know sells it for a lot cheaper than the AU$350 i paid to get them imported from germany.

warning though... you need to drive each speaker with at least 100wrms from an amp as each speaker is rated at 350wrms (200wrms of which belongs tot he main big speaker)

i had these on a parcel shelf in my nissan NX.. had to create a new parcel out of 10mm mdf shelf as each one weighs 6kg.. the stocker sagged eventually. These will only produce good bass (as with any 6x9 setup on a parcel shelf) if your parcel shelf seals against the boot completely

These can be rebuilt and the mid/tweeter platform at the top can be unscrewed to turn the entire unit into subs.

get mtx speakers. best quality/dollar value imo.. cleanest sound would definently come from kicker amps.
