i was talking to friend who told me that if you bring in good oil they are going to use in their own cars instead. it honestly would not surprise me the least, i think for my 20k service im going to a trusted mech, dealer services are huge gimmick that warranty is an excuse for.

at trivett parramatta, you can watch all the workstations from the lounge so you can see what they are doing.
it was fascinating, had a book with me but didnt touch it as i was watchin them with the car

Yeap... I watch them from the lounge on top and get free coffee....
plus they return the unfinished oil to me, dont even ask them to do so. I always ask them not to wash my car, and currently they have the express service or was it F1 pit stop service or somthing like that, 1 or 2 hour service. Forgot what they call already.

In this case, wouldn't it be better to get them to put an OEM oil in and then just change it yourself?! I really don't feel like sitting there for 4-5hours watching them "torturing" my car (i was told 40k service takes about 4-5 hours).

I'll ring them tomorrow and tell them that a friend has recommended them but he paid much less, wanna see what they have to say.
The price they're quoting you must include valve clearance check AND adjustment.mine didn't need adjustment so therefore it was cheaper.Ask them how much $$$if they find after checking valve clearance it's within spec and doesn't need adjustment. Also remember i didn't get my air filter replaced as i have a K&N.

That's the thing!! I asked about it Valve Clearance check straight away. Was told that they just "listen" and if it "sounds" ok then its fine since those engines are generally good. Pardon my english, but that's pretty much what i was told.
I think the only things that were not included on yr receipt is air filter change and car wash. :-/

I'm not surprised by this at all. As I mentioned before, even just about every new car service manual states that valve clearance needs to be checked and adjusted, yet despite the number of new cars people that I know and I, have owned in the past, have yet to hear that the valves has been adjusted by the servicing dealer commensurate with the cost.
You see, when the word check appears in the service manual to the dealers it is a goldmine because that's exactly what they would do which would only take a few minutes yet they would charge you for the whole hour.
Everytime there is a major service that needs to be done they'll say it is going to take 5 hours or more, however more often than not, I can see more than half of that the car just sit around not being worked on!

Spoke to Collins Honda again. Told them was quoted $490 and a friend who recommended them did 40k in JUNE for around $300 mark (told them that air filter and engine oil were supplied). I was told that if i did the same, still would be looking at around $400 dollar mark.
Soo, decided to try out Trivett in Parra, same price but close to home.
Thank you guys for all your contributions!!
