it's a heat shield for the air filter guys! It's a d14a4 n/a eudm civic.
As for the intake volume just think that bigger is not always better _especially with stock cam-head_ You need air velocity and better air flow as well. Generally i am in favor of short ram intakes under the condition that you supply cold air somehow. In my case i use a ceramic coated header which ensures significantly lower engine bay temperatures and shielded filter.

Your havin' a go Saran, that's all that matters.Just need to get it workin' better

The whole unit needs to be enclosed so no hot engine bay air is gettin' in there. That's the trick.I was stuck for ages cause I couldn't find a suitable enclosure for the filter until I found the one I got now.

Thanks Mr Wills and Luke! hahahaha Luke, didn't really help the y4 auto

thanks beez, thought id have a try aaha
well, im kinda sure the unit is enclosed as of now as its just still a stock airbox with a k&n panel filter haha,
but until i get enough money to do a proper job, this is alright i reckon.
i like the idea of 'cold air' going in, whether is makes a difference or not, but before the air was coming in from the engine bay anyway, from that oem u pipe thing,
so i imagine ive helped things at least a bit... well i hope so

Yeah I totally feel the same way.I would much rather air from outside the engine bay going in the engine than hot engine bay air forsure!
I'm like that,I do all the little or tricky mods that cost bugger all to do and probably don't amount to a hell of a lot like a engine conversion but ya gotta work with what ya got.
At least if I do a conversion,I should have all the other things done

I'm going to put the air filter in the front bumper and run the hose to the intake piping
