Review: Mothers FX wheel cleaner and DIY

Disclaimer: The following is provided as a GUIDE ONLY, and neither myself nor Ozhonda take any responsibility for the outcomes of someone else doing the following. You follow these steps at your own risk!

Aim: Make wheels shine like new, and remove stubborn brake dust and road grime. Without damage to your wheels with harsh chemicals.

Here are my RAYs GT-C in need of a little TLC

    Dirty wheel:

    Required:

    -Time and patience/ or boredom
    -Dirty wheels
    -Jack
    -Scourer
    -Hard bristled brush
    -Mothers FX Engineered Wheel Cleaner
    -Old rags
    -Water
-Rubber Gloves, this stuff is corrosive and hurts hands

    -Optional:
    -Mother Chrome Polish.
    -Kitten Tyre Rejuvenator

    Steps:

1.Remove wheels- one at a time if needed. Make sure to chock the wheels, and that the handbrake is engaged with car in gear- safety first
    2. Wheels must be cool and dry
    3. Spray freely Mothers Wheel Cleaner and let it sit for 2 minutes
    4. Rinse off with water whilst scrubbing with scourer, use brush to get to tighter spaces
    5. repeat process for heavily soiled rims
    6. Dry wheel with a rag
    7. If you have a chrome lip to polish apply Mothers Chrome Polish with a clean terry towel, and allow to dry to a haze
    8. Buff with a clean microfibre towel, or clean rag to remove residue
    9. Spray Kitten Tyre rejuventator to add a sheen to your rubber to match the glow of your rims
    10. Sit back and admire your work!

    Other comments
Do not let Wheel Cleaner sit on wheels for too long, you dont want it to dry on the wheel. Make sure to properly torque the wheels.

Totals cost for marterials is $20 for Mothers Wheel Cleaner, $13 for Mothers Chrome Polish, and $8.98 for Kitten Tyre Rejuvenator, all found at Supercheap.

I highly reccomend the mothers range, and I'm very happy with the ability to remove the stubborn grime my wheels had on them.

Wow! They came up just like new!

How long did you spend on each rim?

How bad were the rims to start with?

    Everyone's gotta love this DIY!

The pics are of the actual wheels, you can see how bad they were.

I spent about 20 mins on each wheel, including taking them off and remounting them, one at a time. I did it over two days.

It looks like it's just grease and oil.If you live near the ocean your rims can become salty and crusty which would obviously be harder to clean depending on how bad they were.
