  1. #1

    crx wont move.

got an 88 model crx with a d15b, it starts but when you select gears it doesnt move, the speedo goes but the car doesnt move. the speedo also goes while car is in neutral with the clutch out.

does anyone know what this is?

    im a bit confused

so your car is standing still and it says ur driving say 20kmph?

yeah thats right. the car sits still but speedo is working.

like if you put it in third at 4k rpm it will say 100k's an hour.

is that explained a bit better?

sounds like the drive shaft has poped out or your gearbox is rooted

as above - the diff is reading a "speed" readout from the VSS as it moves around , but the driveshafts are not connected to the diff correctly and not moving - blown diff ? cv joint on one side shattered ?

so if its a CV joint thats shattered, but the other is ok. then it should still drive in reverse right? i dont know much about fwd cars, but i believe that one wheel drives forward, and the other in reverse? is that right.

because it does the same thing in reverse. also gears are very hard to select.

    thanks for the help

do you hear any grinding or whirling ? or it simply goes up to the indicated speed and wont move? Def.issue in the gearbox.

  9. #9
nah theres no grinding or anything, just very hard to select gears. and even when the car is in neutral idling it reads 20kph, and when you rev it the speedo goes up (still in neutral)

    needs new gearbox?

most likely, dont think its anything electrical, most likely mechanical, something to do with gearbox.

88 model crx's dont have electronic speed sensors

    Definately...

If your speedo wasn't freewheeling and you couldn't change gears then it may have been a (less expensive) clutch-plate failure.

I don't think the speedo would have a reading if the clutch was failing.
