Ken are you going to kill the stock deck and steering wheel remote once you install this all-in-one unit?

NO! I SURE HOPE NOT! lol. I'm still thinking about it all. Haven't got anything yet.

Basically, Im really happy with stock audio. I really just want a GPS/DVD player in that bottom compartment.

My main idea was to get one, that would fit inside....and still be able to close that lid. I don't exactly like the look of the screen there to be honest. I'd like it to be hidden when I'm parked etc etc.

As for that harness thing, how would it kill the main stock deck and wheel remote??

Edit: I wanted to run the sound though the stock speakers (incase i wasnt clear)

Yeah sorry, I just meant would you not use the stock deck once you have the new deck in. Let me find some pix of my setup, but once you actually go through this thread it will be all clear and the link that EuroSteve just above thats very useful.

    My install was:
    - Double DIN all-in-one 7" headunit
    - 2 x male harness
    - 2 x female harness
    - 8 gauge battery cable to aftermarket deck

    Existing
    - Stock deck
    - Honda iPod adapter
    - Honda BT Kit

In the end they all work. But you can only use one HU at a time. Either stock or the aftermarket. Steering wheel still controls the stock HU. I mainly use the aftermarket to play music clips and gps. Rest of the time I use stock+ipod.

Thanks man. Pix would be awesome. I've kinda filtered through all the pages....but that left me MORE confused. lol

Start with this. The harness only does power + speakers. This is why you need 2 pairs of each so you can take some of the cable to wire up the steering wheel remote.

Connect them up, solder and heatshrink.

    All done.

sorry to be noob but is it not possible to link up an aftermarket headunit to the stock HU with a BUS cable, the connection is underneath the stock HU? and play the aftermarket one through the stock AUX function?

Yep it can be done, i bought an auxilary adapter from these guys:
    http://indashpc.org/new/aux_adapters/car2aux-hon1.html

and it works perfectly when switching between the stock HU and my Alpine DVD player via the CD/AUX button. You can also do it using an FM modulator where you have one dedicated channel on your stock HU, and tune that to the frequency of the modulator to switch between the aftermarket unit and the stock one. But if you want slightly better quality throughput and save all your radio channels then go the AUX adapter. Plus i think its a bit more of a professional looking job using the AUX button to switch betwen the 2 units rather than using a radio channel.

i just tap the wire to the new head unit.
both my decks are working. Only problem i have is to choose which deck is running FM as there is only one FM radio wire.
