no its actually a lower final drive... its the opposite when you are talking about the final drives...

b16a2 boxes have closer 4th and 5th gear ratios then the type r gearbox... and a 4.4 final drive

however the final drive on the type r gearbox is a 4.785 so that is why they made 4th and 5th gear longer in the type r gearbox so it doesnt sit too high in the revs on the highways etc...

delsol b16a2's usually have y21 gearboxes, ek4's have the s4c,, dont know about the em1's? however they are all the same...

so for track work - B16A gbox would be good? Im trying to get a cable gbox as the car is cable and i don't particularly want to modify stuff for Hydraulic unless i really have to.

Im looking for something that won't have a long 5th, and fairly close 3-4-5th if 5th possible - keeping it within vtec around barbagallos which has quiet a few 3rd/4th corners and don't want to drop out of vtec too much.

I would go hydro gearbox. Not much more work to get it working. Just need to buy the hydro mount kit (hasport, innovative). IMO use the b16a box, rip it apart and install a 4.9FD and LSD. The gearing will suit the b16a well.

Hey Mike, so for drags the same theory applies shorter ratios/ larger drive?

b16a box+ 4.928+ lsd= win for n/a applications and it works very well for track
b16a box+ lsd = win for boosted applications

i guess with type R gb u would have a more decent hway cruising rpm 100km/h 3500rpm. If u are going with the b16a gearbox but with 4.9 Final drive, cruising speed rpm would be quite hard to live with.
