    hey guys, just been to pedders and tyrepower. Kings Springs dont produce any lower than "LOWS" for the 96 Accords.
    - At Pedders it will cost me $740 (King Spring Lows)
    - At TyrePower Sunshine $300 (King Spring Lows)
    It will only drop 1 & 1/2 inch (35mm). I mentioned shaving abit of the "Bump Stops" off, they said they can do it for free and it will lower my car a further 15mm.

    Do any of you guys think SHAVING THE BUMP STOPS is a good idea? I mean i want the ride to look good but not too low.. Ill probably tell them to shave off 10mm worth so it aint too low and still has a good look to it.

    wtf. If your car is low enough that it is sitting on the bump stops and therefore will lower the car more when you shave them down then you will have shocking handling.

    With lows you may hit the bump stops over big bumps, which affects handling, but it won't sit on them. Shaving them back won't make the car lower it will just make sure that you don't hit them as often. So yeah, probably cut them back a little bit but don't expect it to make any difference to the height.

    dont shave the bumpstop, thats a stupid idea.
    dont pay pedders $740 to do that thats also a stupid idea.

    get k-macs if u just want lowered springs, you should know that lowering ur accord more than 1.5inches (more than king lows) will massively increase the affect of shock wear on your stock shocks, which are probably not in the greatest condition after over 150,000kms.

    My advice, either get 1.5inch lowered, or if u want it lower then do it properly...upgrade your shocks.
    Gas up the Vtec for you tonight and baby you can go wherever you like.....

    is that compressing a spring has no affect on it's rate, regardless of how many times it's done. Even making the spring from a different grade of steel alloy won't affect the spring rate.

    The only things that affect spring rate are the diameter of the spring wire and the working the length of that wire (i.e. 'working' meaning metal that deflects under load).

    Heating the spring and thus altering the 'temper' of the steel doesn't affect the spring rate but does affect the elastic limit, i.e. if the spring material becomes too soft then it will take on a permanent deformation at a lesser deflection (i.e. sag) than previously (and if a spring is manufactured with a temper that is too hard then it may fracture rather than deflect and spring back, but it's rate prior to failure wil be the same as a softer spring of identical dimensions).

    Even if the spring compresses in use (i.e. sags) it's rate remains the same while the ride height lowers. A spring that develops cracks may lose spring rate, but complete fracture will follow soon.

    Compressing a spring may make it feel softer if the compression results in the suspension bottoming out more often, which it will because the bump travel is reduced with no change in spring rate. Compressing springs isn't really a good idea, in fact may be worse than cutting them because at least cutting a spring does increase it's rate to some degree and thus tend to bottom out less severely than a spring compressed for the same degree of lowering. Having said that, cutting a spring typically does not increase the rate enough to make up for the decreased travel, so increased bottoming out (frequency / severity) is probably still going to be an issue.

    Shorter springs need to be stiffer.

    I don't know current prices, and can't recall what I was quoted for the AGX dampers a couple of years ago, but I do remember that the price difference was not enough to make the AGX look good value compared to the more expensive but more respected Konis, especially with a number of accounts of relatively short damper life I heard with regard to the AGX.

    I got my Konis for my CB7 for $850 a couple of years ago. They are still perfect despite the corrugated dirt roads around here...
