    Desperate Engine Help Please

    Hi All,

I recently aquired a 1990 ED Civic Hatch, its a great little car but has blown a head gasket..

I decided that this was a do-able thing so set about with my trusty (er rusty) spanners and removed the head (with much swearing)

Now, here is what lead up to this point,

The previous owner was driving from Sydney to Melbourne and around Albury, it went off the scale on the temp guage and basically died, and wouldnt turn over.

I did find the bores full of water, but no real damage I can see, however..

can someone please look at my rather large photos (sorry bout that)
and look at the metal missing from around the sleeve on number 2 bore, the head gasket does not show any real place it was letting water in (unless the head has an internal crack somewhere.)

What I would like to know, is it worth getting the head skimmed and a new gasket and throwing it all back together, or is it new engine time?

The engine was so hot it has melted a lot of the cambelt cover (on the engine side) so it could be a bugger to get at the cam belt tensioning bolt.

Could the water pump be stuffed too?

What started as some happy tool-time fun is heading to hell in a baby carriage, any advise greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Chris

He must have used tap water for coolant. Looks like the sleeve corroded and then pieces broke off!

There definately wasnt coolant in it, and the cam cover (the inside part of it) was melted onto the cam belt..... so yeah, it must have got pretty hot, and the temp sensor is buggered too, it just hits the top of the guage when you turn the ignition on!
