    LHS Driver Shaft boot is gone - Accord DC5

    Listen to this.
    My wife took the car to Mornington (Vic) a few weeks back and she had a tyre puncture, due to driving on some dirt/gravel road. That night, i took the tyre out of the car and found a lot of "green gooey" type oil on the inside of the rim....what the?

    Anyway, looked under the car yesterday and the boot shaft is torn/gone.
    Messy gooey oil everywhere!!!

    Now, do i need to change the whole shaft or just get a rubber boot?
    Let me know what i'm up for $$$

    That would be your CV Joint boot. You might be right to just change the boot it depends if the CV Joint is stuffed.
    I think from memory my CV Joint cost around $600 inc labor. Dont know about the boot on its own tho.

    The cv boot costed me about $35 dollar each coz it is just a rubber or that flexy covering. The labour depends on mechanics hourly charge coz they would have the split the bearings and ladidadada

    I'm more inclined to get the rubber boot and see if a local mechanic can do this for me - Should i get the part from Honda or Repco/Autobarn instead?

    I would go OEM, go to honda specialist would be great.

    recently bought a pair of shafts for my prelude and they are a top quality product. comparable to oem if you ask me.

    oem would set you back nearly $900 for EACH side.....new....

    To determine whether you need to change the whole shaft, how many kms done on those shafts? how many kms done on the shafts exposed to the environment? also is it the passenger or drivers side shaft?

    if you DIY it should cost you no more than $15 and you can purchase the boots from Autobarn, supercheap auto etc. $15 for the boots and $30 for oil. If you choose to DIY follow the service manual and its pretty straight forward. just ask and i'll be happy to help

    its a fairly straight forward process but not advised for the faint hearted.

    You can get reconditioned shafts to suit your vehicle for around $150 + fitting. WTF @ spending $900 or $600.

    It's the passenger side. Have to check my records to see when the last time this was done. The driver's side was replaced last year - cost me about $150 from my local mechanic. There's no noise when i'm turning the vehicle, so i'm just going to buy a rubber boot and do this myself. Any chance of sending me the service manual on this???

    yeah its only $150 lmao...$900,600 is a joke.

    you can find the service manual for your honda in the www.hondahookup.com database.

    they've got 100's of manuals so urs should be in there. only requirement is that you register as a member and you have access.

    i wreckon you dont need to change out your whole axle it isnt worth it. wait until your axle makes clicking noises then change out the whole shaft but for now just change the boots.

    because its the passenger side you dont have to drain the gearbox fluid so total cost is $15 and you may need a bearing removal tool which you can also buy from autobarn for <$10.

    if you havent done this before best do alot of research into certain procedures like ball joint removal etc.. it'll take you around 2 hours to change i wreckon. just follow the service manual and you'll be fine

    i was quoted close to 900 for left or right driveshafts from my local Honda dealer...need i say more...

    as for the service manual...i can email you the whole thing if ya like..

    oh yeah no doubt you got quoted $900.. i was just saying that paying $900 is a rip!
