					DC5R cheaper alternative to coilovers

							Hi all,
Some very quick questions. I don't know much about suspension setups but I've contemplated purchasing coilovers. However, it doesn't justify the cost especially when i don't track my vehicle.

 1. Which spring & shock combo would you recommend if I wanted something that lowered my vehicle only slightly (1 - 1.5") but with a softer ride? I'm not after cornering speed and would much prefer something easy for daily drive. I occasionally tackle a corner fast, but not "action man fast".

 2. Do i need to purchase springs that are specific to the DC5R or are they universal?

 3. What's the difference between a spring and a progressive spring? Which should I opt for, for comfort?

 4. Do i just take them to a local mechanic to install?

 Much appreciated.

Hey mate, many people use coilovers because of their height and damper adjustability. If you are looking for a combo, it will set you back around 700 as well at the very least. Might as well get a 2nd hand coilovers with better functions. It is true that you dont track it, but honestly speaking, not many people will buy the 2nd hand combo. More people buy 2nd hand coilovers.

In terms of springs, I dont think they are universal, they are off different length and spiral diameter, if that's the term they call it. Also, installing wise, you could do it yourself for sure, only time consuming for noobie though. It took me a while to install mine properly last time. Installers will charge you well over 250 for installation itself.

Ask people in Sydney to give you a hand and pay him 50 dollars or something. It should be good.

 Good luck with your car.

Have you considered cutting your own springs? It might suit your needs...

cutting springs is a no no, and plus that'll kill his shocks, i dont think he'll want that.if only looking for a 1.5 inch drop why not get kings spring lows ???
thats the drop they'll give you from stock height

i remember my cousin purchasing tien springs off Edward (honda-maxpower)supposely they dont sag like king springs after a while and are a lil stiffer.

oh he got the "s tech" springs btw
i think "h tech" is more ideally for accords and jazz, remember him saying about giving different damper feels

Any brand lowering springs + koni yellow adjustable shocks is probably the best combo, but your still looking at around $1600+ for the whole setup if u buy new!

As hard as this is for me to say, look at G4 / D2, Racing logic, or HSD coilovers. Or slap some King springs, or spoon, or skunk 2 springs etc on your stock shocks.
